Good food, good ale and good company was the founding ethos of Barbara Cossins when she opened The Langton Arms over 25 years ago; and that’s still what you get today. Our charming C17th thatched pub in Tarrant Monkton has an excellent reputation for fine dining and generous portions, and how many pubs can boast that they have their very own butchery? The Cossins family has been farming in the Tar
rant Rawston area for five generations and raise traditional breeds such as Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cattle as well as venison; their meat is matured and hung on the bone for 28 days, resulting in exceptional flavour and tenderness. All the meat used in the pub comes from the butchery; turkeys come from a nearby farm in Blandford, and the pub uses only Dorset and west country pork, lamb and game. You can also purchase your own butchery items directly from the pub or farm during the week. The Langton Arms is a free house, meaning it offers a fine selection of local real ales and wines, sourced from anywhere it wishes. As well as two dining rooms and bars, the pub also offers The Stables Restaurant and conservatory, a skittle alley which is hugely popular in the winter, a large and open beer garden and a well equipped, well maintained children’s playground. Dogs and kids are made very welcome, and due to the lovely walks all around us, the pub is a very popular place for weekends and holiday family walks. The Langton Arms is licensed for weddings onsite, and offers a complete package from venue and catering (80 seated or 160 buffet) to guest accommodation and the novel option of a honeymoon at the pub’s own holiday cottage in Kalkan, Turkey. The Langton offers six double en-suite B & B rooms built around a pretty courtyard, which are available to book all year round. The cost is only £90 for the room per night and includes a very generous breakfast. Should you choose to have your wedding in the village church, the pub makes an ideal reception venue as guests merely have to walk across the churchyard; and there’s a large overflow car park to accommodate everyone. Also available is a function room for business events and conferences as well as private parties, with the option of skittles games if desired. Work barbecues are also popular here as there’s plenty of garden and outdoor space adjoining the function room. The pub holds regular skittles evenings, quiz nights, and fish and chip nights. Ten years ago the Langton Arms was almost razed to the ground by a fire - the thatched roof was completely destroyed. However nobody was hurt and despite the fire occurring in March, the pub was rebuilt and ready for business again by September. Earning several prestigious awards every year, including the 4 Star AA Dinner and Accommodation Award and a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for the second year in a row.
