bar menu // 6 & 7 august

will have some poussin standing by just in case you are scared of tongue - but you shouldn't be! the way we do it is very similar to salt beef. a version of the dish, with pig's cheek, can be seen overleaf. capers, cornichons, bread fried in dripping, mustard dressing and a good handful of parsley to bring it all together also in the mix. a very rewarding dish.

pasta again this week as it proved very popular last. i think i will do a fried fish special too, whatever looks best on the day.

i was stopped in the street yesterday to be told very tactfully that 'your menu sounds really tasty but i could just make it at home'. i explained to them that this comment only served to strengthen a long-held hypothesis that many people, especially the english, often misunderstand the point of casually eating out - it's not about whether or not you can do it at home, the real joy is that you haven't had to. not every meal has to change your life, often, for me at least, it's enough that it makes it easier.

Unfortunately our fridges have let us down this week, so we’re going to have cancel food service until we get back up and running. Refunds being issued nowww.

As everyone knows already, times are extremely tough for small hospitality businesses including us, and expenses like broken fridges just destroy us. So whenever possible, please do pop in to your local and have a pint or two, we appreciate it more than you possibly know.
