Sunday lunch should never feel like an obligation. It should be a gentle surrender to pleasure; the sort that begins with the crackle of perfectly roasted potatoes, the rich gloss of gravy cascading over tender meat, and vegetables that have been treated with every bit as much care as the centrepiece itself.

There is something deeply reassuring about gathering around a table, a pint or a glass of wine within easy reach, while someone else has done all the hard work.
