Statement from The Crown Public House
The Crown is aware of comments circulating on social media regarding an incident that occurred at the premises.
Following a review by the premises and Essex Police, there is no evidence that a "glassing" took place, nor has any incident of serious violence or serious injury been identified. The incident involved a brief altercation, lasting only a matter of seconds, during which an individual sustained a minor injury.
For the avoidance of doubt, there was no glass involved in this incident. The drinking vessel was a polycarbonate cup, not a glass. The Crown's safety measures mean that little or no glassware is used during busy evening trading periods specifically to reduce the risk of injury. Descriptions of the incident as a "glassing" are therefore factually incorrect.
Our staff and security team responded immediately, provided first aid and assisted the individual concerned. The individual subsequently suffered a seizure and was cared for until emergency services attended. As a precaution, we strongly encouraged a hospital assessment and are pleased to understand that the injuries sustained were minor.
We have been in contact with the individual and her family and, out of respect for their privacy, will not be commenting further on personal matters, other than to say that they are satisfied with the care and assistance provided by our team on the night.
We would respectfully ask anyone who has shared or commented on unverified accounts of this incident to consider removing those posts and to refrain from repeating misinformation or information that has not been properly checked. The circulation of inaccurate information can cause unnecessary distress to those directly involved, their families, our staff and the wider community.
The safety of our customers remains our highest priority. We are satisfied that our staff and door supervisors acted promptly, professionally and appropriately throughout the incident, and we thank everyone who assisted on the night.
