Ready for a month-long beer adventure across Sheffield?

We’re teaming up with eight fantastic venues for the Sheffield Oktoberfest Bier Trail, giving you the chance to explore some of the city’s best pubs and beer destinations while enjoying official Oktoberfest beers.

Participating venues: 🍺 Two Sheds (celebrating their 8th Anniversary!) 🍺 The Hallamshire House 🍺 The Stags Head🍺 The University Arms 🍺 The Bath Hotel 🍺 Hop Hideout ® 🍺 The Fargate 🍺 The Greystones

🎟️ Collect all 8 stamps and earn a FREE pint!

Pick up a Bier Trail Passport, visit each venue, and collect one unique stamp per stop. Complete your passport and the final venue you visit will reward you with a free pint.

While the official Oktoberfest celebrations finish on 4 October, participating venues will continue pouring at least one festival beer until 19 October, giving you extra time to complete the trail.

Gather your friends, plan your route, and see if you can conquer all eight venues. 🎉

Weird Things You Find in a Brewery 🍺

When we barrel-age beer, we carry out regular checks to make sure the beer is developing the flavours we’re looking for from the barrels. That’s where the Barrel Thief comes in.

This simple but essential piece of equipment is lowered into a barrel to collect a sample of beer without disturbing the ageing process. We use it every couple of weeks to monitor how the beer is progressing and decide when it’s reached the perfect balance of flavours.

From rich notes of vanilla and oak to hints of spirit character from the barrel’s previous life, the Barrel Thief helps our brewers keep a close eye (and palate) on every batch. Swipe to see it in action ➡️

Green Mountain is back in cask 💚

While Green Mountain is now a firm favourite in cask, it wasn't always that way. Until January 2024, it was exclusively available in keg and can.

So why did we decide to bring our flagship Hazy IPA to cask? Here's an extract from a blog by Technical Brewer, Ben Wood:

"A key feature of Green Mountain is that most of the hops are added directly into the fermenting vessel during fermentation. When mixed with yeast, this allows something called ‘Biotransformation’ to occur. Terpenoids, thiols and other aromatic compounds are transformed by the yeast into other, longer lasting aromatic compounds, like Citronellol. This is what brought us on to a cask version, as we are big advocates of a full cask conditioning process and this can let biotransformation occur in the cask."

Taking place on Saturday 3rd October, this 20.3-mile walk (or run) through the stunning Peak District is a fantastic challenge that helps support outdoor learning opportunities for young people.

Entry costs just £29, and while participants are welcome to raise sponsorship, there’s no obligation to do so.

This weekend, hosted an incredible Beer & Wing Fest, bringing together great beer, delicious food, and a fantastic atmosphere. We were delighted to see a wide selection of Thornbridge beers pouring throughout the event, with so many people joining us to enjoy a pint.

The Harrington Arms is a family-owned traditional village pub in the heart of Thulston and a brilliant place to find Thornbridge year-round. Alongside our rotating Year of Beer casks, you’ll always find Jaipur Cask, Day Maker, and Green Mountain Alcohol Free on the bar. They have built a reputation for their warm welcome, excellent homemade food, and well-kept ales. Events like Beer & Wing Fest are a perfect example of what makes it such a special destination for beer lovers.
Whether you’re popping in for a pint, a meal with friends, or looking out for one of their brilliant events, The Harrington Arms is always a great place to find Thornbridge.
