Being in the pub game in this day and age can be hard and challenging, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. We love our chats with all of our regulars on a day-to-day basis, and over time, we have become good friends with many of them.

Dave Coles was one of those people. What a gent. ❤️

As I’ve said before, we didn’t get the honour of knowing Dave for as long as we would have liked, but from day one, we could see what a man he was. A loving husband, a loving dad, a real family man, and someone who had such a passion for football and for all the lads at Legion FC.

Dave led the lads to victory, winning their first cup, and it was clear to see just how much the club and the players meant to him. ⚽️🏆

So, hearing the shock news that Dave had sadly passed away was heartbreaking.

We really wanted to do something in memory and honour of Dave — our friend, the Legion FC gaffa — and also something for his lovely family.

We hope we have done you proud, Dave, just as you did your family, all the football lads and us as the owners of The Legion.

So, we have had a bench made for Dave,(in the shade) with a fitting plaque that we think he would have loved. ❤️

We have also framed a Legion shirt with another plaque in honour of Dave, remembering him leading the lads to cup final victory alongside Ben. 🏆⚽️

I would like to say a massive thank you to Tank for building the benches, Egsy for picking up the shirt we had made for Dave, and lastly to Gary and Ash at Snobs Shoe Repair for doing the plaque for the framed shirt for us free of charge

We hope we have done you proud, Dave.

This weekend sees a little break from TEL action as we turn our attention to the Ellison Rose Bowl, with a trip to Bulls Head.

It’s a prestigious trophy, and one we’ll be hoping to go all the way in. 🏆

The Ellison Rose Bowl was a cup that Dave Coles loved.

Dave featured in the final on five occasions, unfortunately collecting five runners-up medals along the way.

The Legion 7️⃣–0️⃣ Wiggington

A game The Legion controlled from start to finish — and it took just 45 seconds to get on the scoresheet.

A loose back pass was closed down brilliantly by Jack Price, who made no mistake in putting Legion 1–0 up.

Just three minutes later, it was 2–0. Reece Thompson picked up the ball and fired a low effort past the keeper to double Legion’s advantage.

Legion were knocking the ball around with confidence, controlling the tempo and creating chances. A quick corner opened the door for the third, with Eli Jones’ effort taking a deflection before finding the back of the net.

The goals kept coming. A lofted free kick was sent forward by goalkeeper Shane Wardall, and a brilliant header from Thompson found the net to give Reece his second of the afternoon.

HT: The Legion 4–0 Wiggington

The second half started exactly how the first finished — with Legion piling pressure onto the Wiggington back line.

Some smart footwork from Thompson created the opening, and he fired an effort straight past the stationary keeper to complete his hat-trick! ⚽⚽⚽

The game began to open up, but Wiggington never posed a definitive threat to the Legion goal.

A ball was played through and Jordan Coles was brought down inside the box. Up stepped Coles himself, calmly dispatching the penalty to make it 6–0.

And as the game entered its final stages, Coles grabbed his second of the afternoon to round off a brilliant individual and team performance.
