North Devon Jazz Club gigs at The Beaver start at 8.30 pm on selected Mondays (usually every two weeks). The UK's finest contemporary jazz musicians (and also musicians from abroad) appear regularly at this superb venue on the Torridge Estuary in the picturesque old fishing and shipbuilding village of Appledore. The Club has been running for over twenty years, having started in Barnstaple and the

n moved to The Palladium Club in Bideford before reaching its present home at The Beaver, Appledore. Amongst the top musicians and bands performing at the Club have been Gilad Atzmon, Peter King, Christine Tobin, Julian Segal, Phil Robson, Sarah Jane Morris, Laura Jurd, Bruce Adams, Sarah Gillespie, Julian Arguelles, Jim Mullen, Polar Bear and many, many more. Gigs (usually every two weeks) start at 8.30 p.m. and entry is free, but a collection is taken for the musicians. Great news that a cd of the Tommaso Starace Organ Trio’s gig last October at The Beaver has just been released. The recording of the gig has been remastered to produce an excellent sound quality and Tommaso’s playing on it is typically inventive and joyous. Together with the fine musicianship of Martin Jenkins and Pip Harborn the band’s performance delighted the audience at The Beaver Inn.

Many thanks to Tommaso for initiating the production of the cd which marks over twenty years of fabulous jazz at The Beaver.

The Beaver audience experienced one of the best gigs we’ve had at North Devon Jazz Club last night when the Tristan Mailliot Quartet celebrated the music of Chick Corea. Tom Ridout proved to be one of the finest saxophonists in the UK with his beautiful tone and fluent solos, drummer Tristan drove the band forward with a dense array of percussive techniques, pianist Tom Ball contributed some great solo work and bassist Jim Rintoul very capably underpinned the band.
