This weekend at Ye Olde No. 3, we're bringing a little piece of our home to the menu.

Kerala. A coastal region with a love for seafood that runs deep and a cuisine that most people haven't truly had the chance to explore. Until now.

This is the part of Indian cuisine you've never had before.

Fish Pollichathu. Whole fish (pomfret), marinated, wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked until every bit of flavour is locked in.

Prawn Tawa Roast. Bold, smoky, the kind of dish Kerala does better than anywhere.

This weekend, we reckon you deserve a proper pie and someone to beat at pool.

Our steak ale pie has been on the menu since we opened and people still order it every single week. There's a reason for that.

We wanted to bring something more this summer. And it started with a very simple question.

What do we do best?

Honestly, the answer was obvious. The food. So we thought, why not do more of it?

This summer we're bringing in a South Indian menu alongside our usual. Think different breads, different rice, more of those bold, layered flavours that South Indian cooking does like nothing else. More flexibility to mix, match and try something new.

This one is also a dedication. For those who came in, tried our Malabar chicken curry or spice trail beef curry and never quite got over it. You know who you are. We made this for you.

And if you're a pies, banger and mash or pan seared salmon/seabass kind of person, don't worry. Your favourites are staying right where they are.

Oh, and one more thing. We're also planning live dosa and breakfast in the garden this summer. We'll say more when we're ready but trust us, you'll want to follow along for this one.

Our porotta. The flaky bread that's not quite exactly the one you commonly get around here.

Most people know paratha. The soft, wholesome flatbread that's been a staple on every Indian restaurant menu for years. Ours is different. What we make is a Kerala porotta, and if you've never had one, let us tell you what you've been missing.

Our Kerala porottas are worked differently. The dough is rested, stretched and coiled into itself, layer upon layer, until it builds up into something that's almost architectural. When it hits the pan, those layers separate into thin, golden, flaky sheets that pull apart in your hands. 🫓

It's made by hand, every time. There are no shortcuts with a porotta worth eating.😋

And the best way to have it? Torn and scooped straight into a bowl of our beef curry or creamy prawns, letting the sauce soak into every flaky layer. That first scoop. That's the moment.

But first, let us clear something up.

We are a pub! A proper one. The kind that sits quietly by the canal, where the beer garden fills up on sunny afternoons and the pool table gets busy when it doesn't.

Sunday at Ye Olde No. 3 smells like this: roast potatoes crisping up in the oven, gravy simmering away. There's the roast, of course! proper, hearty, made from scratch.

And somewhere in the kitchen, a pan of beef curry that's been slow-cooking. The creamy prawns in a sauce so good people ask for extra bread just to mop it up, our appams and Kerala porotta soft and golden, made just for scooping up the curry. A year ago, we stood in this pub with a head full of dreams and a kitchen that wasn't quite ready for them.
