+ + + PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT + + +

Our weekly Pub Quiz is back tomorrow night — sharpen those pencils, dust off those brain cells and get your team together for a night of craic, competition and cold Guinness. There is no better way to spend a Thursday evening, and you know it.

One small but important change: from now on, the Quiz kicks off at 8pm — one hour later than before. More time to settle in, order a pint and pretend you've been brushing up on your general knowledge all week.

See you tomorrow.

Science walks into an Irish pub...
No, that's not the beginning of a joke — that's Wednesday night at the Rover.

„Wissen vom Fass" brings researchers from every field into Hamburg's bars and pubs — and over a drink, curious minds get the chance to ask questions until the last glass is empty. Since 2015, DESY and the University of Hamburg have been taking science out of the lecture halls and laboratories and bringing it straight to the people — no prior knowledge required, just an open mind and a comfortable seat.

This Wednesday, the Irish Rover is one of over 40 venues across the city hosting a talk — and we think a Guinness in hand makes for a rather fine thinking aid.
Come with questions. Leave with answers. And maybe a second pint.

Wednesday, 3rd June | Open from 5pm | Talk starts at 8pm | Free admission

+ + + TODAY LIVE @ THE IRISH ROVER + + +

JERRY K. REED is one of Hamburg's finest kept secrets — a solo artist who captures the mood of grey afternoons and dimly lit bars in his songs like nobody else. His reduced blend of blues, jazz and soul is brutally honest at times, sharply observed at others, and there's always a wry gallows humour lurking somewhere in the lyrics. An EP, two full albums and close to 100 gigs in, Jerry knows exactly what he's doing — and what he's doing is getting under your skin.

JOSH BLACKBIRD comes from Hagen with a head full of rock 'n' roll and a fistful of honest songs. Schooled by the great American storytellers — Petty, Springsteen, Neil Young, Mike Ness — he knows that all you need is a good story and the nerve to tell it straight. Hope, heartbreak, low life and the occasional girl. Acoustic, raw and completely disarming.

Put these two on the same stage for the very last live music night in the Celtic Cellar before the summer break — and you've got something special. The Cellar goes quiet after Sunday, so this is your last chance to catch live music downstairs until September. Pull up a stool, order a pint and let them do the rest.

This Week at The Irish Rover — Last Call for Live Music!

Summer is here, Hamburg is basking and the living is easy. But before you disappear to your balcony or wherever the sun takes you — we have one last magnificent week of live music lined up. After Sunday, the Celtic Cellar heads into its well-earned summer break. Live music returns in September, and the second half of the year holds some very special treats. But first — this week. Don't waste it.

THURSDAY, our trusty PUB QUIZ at 7pm sharp. Teams of up to six, cold pints, warm arguments. The usual.

FRIDAYbrings STEPHEN KAVANAGH to the stage. Dublin-born and steeped in music from the very beginning, Stephen had a guitar in his hands at 13 and was busking the streets of Dublin by 14. His style weaves Irish folk, swing, blues and country into something entirely his own — warm, unhurried and deeply felt. A Hamburg institution for nearly three decades, and every bit as good as the first time. A perfect Friday night.

SATURDAY is something special. JERRY K. REED meets JOSH BLACKBIRD — two songwriters, two very different voices, one mighty evening. Jerry's intimate blend of blues, jazz and soul hits hard, always with a wry gallows humour lurking in the lyrics. Josh, schooled by Petty, Springsteen and Neil Young, knows that you don't need fancy chords to tell a great story. Honest, raw and not to be missed.

And SUNDAY — our last IRISH TRAD SESSION of the season. The real thing. It would be a shame to miss it. So don't.

All week from 5pm — After Work Guinness between 5 and 6 for just €5.

Summer is knocking on the door — and at the Rover, we're flinging it wide open. The sun is on its way, the terrace is calling and we've lined up a week that deserves to be celebrated properly. Six nights, great music, good craic and a few seasonal treats on the menu: cool down with a Lillet Spritz, a Limoncé Spritz or our very own Irish Mule. Cheers to that.

One more thing worth knowing: this is the penultimate week of live music before the Celtic Cellar heads into its summer break. So come out, soak it up and make it count.

Wednesday kicks things off with something a little different — an Old-Time & Bluegrass Session. Banjos, fiddles, foot-stomping rhythms and the kind of music that makes you smile before you even know why. Pure joy, straight from the American heartland, right here at Großneumarkt.

Thursday brings our beloved Pub Quiz from 7pm — dust off those brain cells, gather your finest minds and may the best team win.

Friday belongs to our very own Larry Donlon — Cork man, Hamburg regular and a true pub musician in the finest tradition. Guitar, banjo and mandoline, ranging from Irish trad and folk to country, jazz and all the great songs in between. Always great craic, never a dull moment.

And then Saturday — something rather special. Samuel Specker, beloved member of our very own crew, steps out from behind the bar and onto the stage for the very first time. Charming, warm and an absolute party guarantee — Sam covers the songs everybody knows and loves, and he'll have the whole pub singing along before the second verse. Don't miss this one. We have a feeling it won't be his last.

Sunday, as ever: our mighty Irish Trad Session in the Celtic Cellar. The real thing, the way it's always been done. Musicians welcome, listeners even more so.

Hamburg does what Hamburg does — grey skies, a bit of drizzle and a wind that can't quite make up its mind. But you know what? That's exactly what the Rover was made for. Six nights, six reasons to leave the sofa, brave the weather and let us take care of the rest.

All week from 5pm — and between 5 and 6 our After Work Guinness for just €5 a pint. Because the best evenings always start with a warm pub and a cold pint.

WEDNESDAY welcomes back GREG CLIFFORD from Dublin — a songwriter's songwriter who blends folk, alternative rock and classical fingerpicking into something honest, layered and quietly captivating. He has scored for the RTE Concert Orchestra, worked with Hozier and earned the Irish Times' praise for his mastery of craft. A grand night for the ears.

THURSDAY is Vatertag — and there's no better place to spend it! Our PUB QUIZ kicks off at 7pm sharp. And downstairs we're proud to welcome JOHN STEAM JR. for his very first Rover appearance. Over 500 concerts played, a dusty Nashville soul and an Americana / Folk Punk sound that's raw, witty and disarmingly honest. Don't miss it.

FRIDAY brings Hamburg's own MIA PETERS to the stage — a singer-songwriter who moves between deep melancholy and songs you can't help but sing along to. Warm, genuine and impossible to forget.

SATURDAY belongs to our beloved LARRY DONLON — Cork man, Hamburg regular, and a true pub musician in the finest tradition. Guitar, banjo and mandoline, ranging from Irish trad and folk to country, jazz and all the great songs of the 60s and 70s.

And SUNDAY, as ever: our mighty IRISH TRAD SESSION in the Celtic Cellar. Musicians welcome, listeners even more so.

There are musicians who play Irish music. There are musicians who play reggae. And then there's OWEN CASEY — a man from the west of Ireland who decided, somewhere along the way, that the two belonged together. And you know what? He was right!

Born in Portumna, Co. Galway, Owen found his second home in Hamburg, where he spent years building something genuinely unique: a sound where the ancient melodies of the Irish tradition meet the deep, rolling rhythms of Jamaican roots reggae — soulful, unhurried and utterly his own. With his band iManClan he became a firm favourite on the Hamburg scene, took the stage at Reggae Jam Festival, and released music that turned heads well beyond these shores.

Life has taken Owen elsewhere since then — but on Thursday, after a long time away, the prodigal son returns to the the Irish Rover. For those who remember him, it's a reunion long overdue. For those who've never had the pleasure — well, you picked the right night to come out.

Pull up a stool, let the evening unfold and trust the music.

What a week we have in store for you — and yes, we're open Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm, including Friday the 1st of May. Come and spend your public holiday the right way.

THURSDAY is a double bill not to be missed. Our weekly Pub Quiz gets the evening rolling at 7pm — teams of up to seven, brains required, excuses accepted. But the real headline is this: OWEN CASEY is coming back to the Rover — and the prodigal son couldn't be more welcome. Born in Portumna in the west of Ireland, Owen has long been one of Hamburg's most singular musical characters: a man who took the ancient soul of Irish folk and wove it together with the deep rhythms of Jamaican roots reggae into something that shouldn't work — and absolutely does. With his band iManClan he built a devoted following on the Hamburg scene and beyond, even taking the stage at Reggae Jam Festival. Back at the Rover's basement venue from 9pm, expect something warm, unexpected and completely his own. Don't miss it!

FRIDAY brings DECLAN O'CONNELL to the stage — a Cork man through and through, with a voice made for ballads and a repertoire that ranges from the Dubliners to Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Expect old favourites, a touch of heartache and plenty of soul.

On SATURDAY, STEPHEN KAVANAGH is back. Dublin-born and steeped in the Irish folk tradition — his uncle is none other than John Sheahan of The Dubliners — Stephen brings his own singer-songwriter touch to a classic sound. The kind of night where one pint turns into three and nobody minds at all.

And SUNDAY, as ever, belongs to the music itself: our TRADITIONAL IRISH SESSION in the Celtic Cellar. Musicians welcome, listeners even more so.

All week long, from 5pm onwards — and don't forget our After Work Guinness between 5 and 6: a perfect pint for just €5. Sure, there's no better way to end the day.

+ + + SUNDAY TRAD SESSION @ THE IRISH ROVER + + +

Sunday evenings were made for this: fiddles tuning up, flutes finding their breath, and that quiet hum in the pub that tells you the tunes aren't far off.

Our weekly Trad Session brings all the warmth you could ask for — not from a fire, but from music played shoulder-to-shoulder, heart-to-heart. Hamburg's oldest and only regular Irish Trad Session, open to musicians and listeners alike.

No stage, no fuss — just honest tunes rolling through the room, the way they've been shared for generations.
