Looks like Hamburg is behaving itself for once: mild, mostly dry and even a bit of sunshine. We’ll take it. The pints are pouring and there’s plenty happening at the Rover this week.
THURSDAY starts with our PUB QUIZ from 8pm. Gather your team, bring the useless knowledge you’ve been collecting for years and see if any of it finally pays off.
On FRIDAY, LARRY DONLON takes us through Irish ballads and trad, country favourites and a few classics from the 60s and 70s — guitar, banjo and mandolin in the hands of an Irishman who knows his way around a pub song.
Then SATURDAY gets a little dirtier as CARLEY’S WECK & RUIN roll into the Celtic Cellar from the UK. Jo and Tim Carley bring their wonderfully raw mix of early blues and dark roots — battered guitars, mandolin, washboard, kick drum and enough grit to rattle the glasses behind the bar.
And after all that, SUNDAY belongs to the tunes as our weekly IRISH TRAD SESSION gathers around the table once again.
Quiz, ballads, dirty blues and Irish Trad - not a bad way to spend a September weekend.
And judging by the forecast, you might want to bring a jacket.
We’ll take care of the shelter and the pints.
