Every legend has a few versions. So do ours.

One legend traces mantou back some 1,800 years to Zhuge Liang, the famed strategist of the Three Kingdoms period. As the story goes, somewhere along a military campaign, necessity called for an offering, and steamed buns shaped in place of human heads became the answer.

The history gets a little hazy from there. The bun, thankfully, stuck around.

Ours have had a few lives of their own. Different fillings, different forms, different years at Bao Bei. We went digging through the archives to see just how much has changed.

Legend has it, they found a home on Keefer Street.
