Attn; Commercial Drive Neighbourhood, Community & Businesses...
As a local pub manager here, I would like to inform those in the surrounding area of Grandview-Woodland that within the past few days there has been a very large (20-30) group of youths roughly aged between 12-17 "ganging" up and harassing, threatening, physically assaulting, as well as supposedly conspiring and also possibly committing harsher crimes.
Thursday evening we received multiple complaints of harassment outside the establishment by groups of kids.
This was reported to bar staff as well as security. They had already been taunting our guards, after severe complaints they were very firmly spoken with and warned police would be informed.
These teenagers are splitting up into smaller groups of 4-6 and hanging out in all surrounding alleys and side streets. They have made threats, they have been physical, and they are suspected to be possibly be armed to some extent. I have personally witnessed a metal rod, a wooden bat, as well as heard rumour of pepper spray, and possibly knives.
Police were notified immediately, and a case file has been created. I was informed by an officer of a few more serious incidents that occurred inbetween the 2900-2200 block radius. I cannot release more detailed information nor post any photos or footage at this point, but I would like the community to be informed and stay alert.
To local businesses, especially small shops, have multiple staff on shift at all times if possible. Have your security on high patrol. To people walking home alone, or even with a partner at night, be very aware of your surroundings at all times, and look out for each other.
Due to severity of threats, and crimes in question; Vancouver Police are asking if there is any harassment involving violent threats, or physical contact/assault of any sort that 911 be called immediately, do not phone non-emergency.
Please share this to friends & family, employers relay emergency routines to staff if possible, please just spread the word as a community we can help crime prevention if we keep eachother informed, and updated.
Have a safe and fun Saturday, thank you for taking the time to read & share.
