If 2001 was the year rock music got good again, it felt like 2011 was when hip hop got good again. The 2000s had some great hip hop but it was a weird decade and what was getting popular around the end made me feel out of touch, but then A$AP, Kendrick, and Tyler all dropping their debut albums. Obviously there was a lot of other great records as well so this one will be a mixed bag tonally. But all good records. Which is why this is the last of our Best music from ___1 years, I just don’t have enough vinyl from 2021 to cap it off.

I used to fall 2001 the year that rock music got good again. To be fair I was heavily into the blues garage rock revival that was going on specifically, but the mid-to-late 90s had gotten really disparate for good straightforward rock music like we experienced back in ‘91. If you don’t believe me take a look at the lineup for Woodstock ‘99 🤢 even some great non rock albums came out, daft punk and Jay-z both had great showings as well. Not to mention The Avalanches ground breaking first album!. Next week we’ll be diving into 2011 as well ni honestly tried to get 2021 on the list but we couldn’t find enough amazing albums that came out that we own on vinyl so 2011 will be the last in the first-year-of-every-decade series but it did get us going down the rabbit hole of great years in music that we’ll probably be revisiting soon for Play & Stay.

CHERRY WAVES
El Dorado Demerara Rums 12 Year Rum, Luxardo Maraschino, Luxardo Cherry, Lime, Angostura, Root B**r Bitters

Turns out I can’t talk, hold a microphone, be acutely aware that I’m on camera, and flip a tin at the same time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Its good to know our limitations. This drink started because we’re working on Season 8 cocktails, and I wanted a direction to go in so i asked a server what sort of drink I should make, be it by flavour profile or spirit they wanted included. Rather then actually putting serious consideration into it they blurted out “make a drink that tastes like a diet cherry coke!!!!” Maybe because they know I’ll try even if I think they’re giving me a joke answer, and they probably wanted a drink that tastes like a diet cherry coke. So this is what I came up with; a little dryer and not as sweet tasting as a can of Diet Coke, but still quite tasty. I don’t know if it’s a menu drink tho, so we’re relying on you the customer to let us know if it’s a winner or loser.
