🚗 𝐖𝐀𝐖𝐃𝐖: 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐎𝐍𝐄, 𝐒𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐆𝐎

Wade’s back in the WAWDW chair this week and he’s brought something with serious miles on it: 𝗟𝘂𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗲, a 7.2% West Coast IPA from Blackman's Brewery, brewed in collaboration with Stone Brewing

It comes from Blackman’s California road trip, where a crew from the brewery drove the West Coast visiting breweries and came home with four collabs. Lupulin Lane was Stop One. They woke up in San Diego with one job for the day: go to Stone. It’s named after the street next to the brewery, and it’s a classic big, bitter West Coast IPA with an Aussie twist. Galaxy, Vic Secret and heaps of Citra sit on a lean malt bill, with firm bitterness and a dry finish.

The rest of the trip produced a double West Coast IPA with Firestone Walker, a West Coast pilsner with Alvarado Street, and another WCIPA with Humble Sea. Last Friday we showed the whole road trip lineup off at Altona. If you missed it, this is the one that started it all.

Back by popular demand: Bloomburrow Draft Night returns to Hopheads Altona. 🐸🃏

Mice, otters, frogs, bats, raccoons and friends are heading back to the draft table, and you asked for it. Every colour pair has its own critter tribe to rally behind, and the games are some of the most fun you’ll have at a table. If you drafted it last time, you already know. Scratched for the Cup, Back at the Gates Wednesday 🏇

Solid turnouts across all our run clubs last week. It started cool and grey, but the cloud cleared in time for every run.

Heads up: we’re closed on Tuesday for Cup Day, so there’s no run club at Yarraville this week. We’re back on the track Wednesday at Altona and Thursday at Point Cook, meeting at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm run, with a Hawkers tinnie at the finish. Runner’s Refuel is with the legends at Pier 71 and Old Pal Korean Kitchen.

Wednesday at Altona is showery and gusty around run time before it clears, so bring a jacket. Thursday at Point Cook is drier and breezy.

The Hopheads B**r Run is heading north. 🍺🏃

We are back for B**r Run 3.0 aka The Hop of The North — organised by the legendary Dave Spargo — and this time we’re exploring some of Melbourne’s best craft b**r venues on the north side.

Starting at La Sirène Brewing in Reservoir, we’ll be running (and walking, no judgement) our way through Hawkers B**r, BrewDog Pentridge and finishing up at Inner North Brewing Company before heading back to home base at Hopheads Yarraville.

We’ve got a new face in the WAWDW chair this week, and if you’ve been through our stores you already know him. Connor loves his b**r, and he’s also our resident Mario Kart speed king. He’s making his WAWDW debut with Seeker’s Pearler, an ultra low carb hazy pale.

It’s a smart pick from a Mario Kart veteran. Anyone who’s played knows the lightweight racers get the best acceleration, so it makes sense that the speed king picked the lightest b**r on the shelf. This one has under 1g of carbs per can, but it hasn’t given up the soft, pillowy hazy feel. It’s double dry hopped with Victoria and Citra for sweet pineapple and a bit of citrus, at an easy 4.6%.

Seeker are from Unanderra, down near Wollongong, a brewery built around good times, good mates and a bit of adventure, and this is one of their most clever releases.

👨💬 Connor’s take: “Perfect b**r for a warm afternoon. Pours a soft, hazy gold with a juicy pineapple and light citrus character, and it’s really easy going without feeling watered down. You’d never guess it’s ultra low carb, because it keeps that smooth, pillowy hazy feel. Light, refreshing and dangerously drinkable. If you like the taste of a nice pale ale, this is the one for you.”

Very good turnouts across all three run clubs last week. Special shoutout to Point Cook on Thursday, which was absolutely cooking. Spring has well and truly arrived, and you all showed up for it.

This week brings the cooler gear back out. Tuesday at Yarraville is a grey, cool one, and the cloud may leave a few light showers around run time, so a jacket is a good idea. Wednesday at Altona stays dry but gets blustery, with cloud overhead and a breeze picking up through the afternoon, so wind-proof layers are the move. Thursday at Point Cook is the best of the three: cloud early, then it clears into a mild, calm evening.

Back again this week: Tuesday at Yarraville, Wednesday at Altona and Thursday at Point Cook. Meet at 6:15pm, run at 6:30pm, Hawkers tinnie at the finish. Then it’s Runner’s Refuel with the legends at Village Cantina, Pier 71 Bar e Cucina and Old Pal Korean Kitchen.

Spooky Sips with Molly Rose Brewing 🎃

This isn’t your usual b**r tasting, so we’re calling it Spooky Sips. Join us at Hopheads Yarraville on Thursday 29 October from 6pm, when Nic will be in to talk all things pumpkin b**r.

He’ll also be pouring a special little sample of his brand new creation: the Pumpkin Spice Lattini.

What’s a Lattini? Is it a latte? Is it a martini? Or is it so scarily good you’ll be haunted by its deliciousness forever? Nic will fill you in on the night.

Blackman's Brewery just took a road trip through California. They brought the b**rs back with them — and Kumar from Blackman’s is coming along to pour them with you.

Four collabs. Four legendary West Coast American breweries. Free tasting from 4–6pm. Forever Burger out back from 5pm. This one’s got everything.

🍺 Lupulin Lane West Coast IPA — with Stone Brewing, San Diego (7.2%)
Galaxy, Vic Secret and Citra hops, firm bitterness, dry West Coast finish with an Aussie twist.

🍺 Cruise Control Double West Coast IPA — with Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Paso Robles (8%)
Chinook, Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic and Krush Cryo. Huge hop aroma, clean dry finish.

🍺 California Dreamin’ West Coast Pilsner — with Alvarado Street Brewery, Monterey (5.8%)
Nelson Sauvin, Centennial, Krush and Mosaic on a Pilsner malt base. The style that blew Blackman’s away most on the trip.

🍺 Salt in the Van DDH West Coast IPA — with Humble Sea Brewing Co., Santa Cruz (7%)
Double dry hopped with Simcoe, Nectaron, Citra and Krush. Maximum fruit character, maximum drinkability.

Well, this calls for a b**r! 🏆🍻

Last Friday, Hopheads won Excellence in Retail, Tourism or Hospitality at the 2026 Wyndham Business Awards. We’ve been pouring b**rs since 2015 and we were super surprised to have walked with a shiny little thing.

Winning was great. Why we won means even more.

What got us over the line was our community: you lot. From day one, Hopheads has been about bringing people together. It started with b**r (it still is!), but over the years it’s grown into sharing all the stuff we love: running, sport, music, board games, video games, trivia. You came wanting to connect, and we weirdly became the facilitators. Many of you are now friends, some practically family, and we’re honoured you’ve let us be part of your lives. Bringing people with different interests together is what we want to do a whole lot more of in the years ahead.

Small business life has its tough moments, so this one means a lot. ❤️
