Today, Club Menangle proudly hosted a commemoration service ahead of tomorrow’s 109th anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba, one of the most significant moments in Australia’s military history.

Held at the Beersheba Wall, built by Club Menangle in 2017 to mark the Centenary of the Battle of Beersheba, the service honoured the 31 Australians who lost their lives during the famous charge on 31 October 1917. The memorial wall bears each of their names, while the adjoining well serves as a reminder of the vital importance of capturing the ancient wells of Beersheba, providing much-needed water for the exhausted mounted troops and their horses.

A special thank you to guest speaker Captain Olivia Miley-Dyer, who shared her remarkable story of resilience, including her cancer diagnosis and recovery journey, gold medal-winning success at the Invictus Games, and humanitarian work with the United Nations.

It was a privilege to welcome Olivia, dignitaries, veterans, community leaders and guests to Club Menangle as we paid our respects and reflected on the courage, sacrifice and legacy of those who served.

Close-up in second was Better Trot (No11), driven by Colin Watts.

Back in third was Real Fidel (Denis Lane), with Alistair Peterson (No12) in fourth place.
