From 90s rock and 80s synths to old-school soul and blues, we’re covering a fair bit of ground at The Pal this week. 🎶

THURS 17 SEPT — HIGHWAYS
Back, and sadder than ever! Highways is the project of sleepmakeswaves’ Otto Wicks-Green, blending 90s rock with 80s synths — taking the Foo Fighters to Prom, if you will. After a year of hibernation, they return for a first-ever two-piece show, with Otto on guitar and vocals and Michael Cardell on keys.


SUN 20 SEPT — JOHNSON & G
Sydney singer-songwriters Fiona Johnson and Ms. G come together for stripped-back guitar, close harmonies and plenty of old soul. Moving from Bill Withers, Ann Peebles and Curtis Mayfield to originals steeped in blues and soul — a little tonic for the broken heart and a little honey with the bitter pills.

Tonight, Val Moogz takes The Pal stage from 7:30pm, bringing a soulful mix of indie folk-pop shaped by the landscapes they’ve travelled.

Country-born, city-raised and now rooted on Brinja-Yuin Country along the south coast of NSW, Val is fresh from festival stages across the state, with recent single Ride Round the Sun and new track Feels So Right on the way.moogz

Bonus Friday gig! Gundungurra Country songwriter Kial Malone rolls into The Pal tonight on his regional solo tour, bringing southern Americana, country, wailing harmonica and gut-punching acoustic guitar. Expect sad songs and (mostly true) stories from the road.

Plus special guest Charley Castle, stripping it back with old George on the mandolin.

THURS 10 SEPT — JOSIE BAKKER
Sydney singer-songwriter Josie Bakker has spent the past decade shaping her folky, pop-alternative sound. With an angelic voice and soulful songwriting, her songs wander through relationships, healing and all the light, dark and in-between.


FRI 11 SEPT — KIAL MALONE

Sydney-born country artist Cooper Lane brings old-school ’90s country together with a laid-back tropical edge. Raised with strong ties to Yass and playing alongside his biggest musical influence — his dad — Cooper’s songs are rooted in country storytelling, rural life and a love of the road.
