We are proud to be a part of the Slow Food - Winter Snail Trail Weekend over the 4th & 5th of July.

Chefs Sam Smith and Emily Thomas present ‘Menu de Jour’ of informal, produce-driven dishes that celebrate the Barossa’s freshest seasonal abundance.

They have created a tasting menu, specially designed to celebrate the connectivity where every possible
by-product of our cooking processes is used and the importance that our business places on ethics, sustainability, regionality and community.

Join us as we offer a relaxed atmosphere for a short visit or a homey place to stay and settle in.

More information on our ‘Menu de Jour’ to be released closer to.

At this time of year, our counters are filled with the colours and flavours of the season. Persimmons, pomegranates, lemons and more.

Much of it is sourced through the Barossa Farmers Market and The Food Forest, with some generously shared by local growers.

It's a small reminder of what makes this region special. A community connected by food, seasonality and a willingness to share what's growing in abundance.

These ingredients find their way into our dishes, preserves, garnishes and drinks, helping us celebrate the Barossa one season at a time.

Detroit returns.

Our second release of this narrative-driven wine honours Peter Lehmann's legacy and the spirit of the Barossa. Crafted by Marco Cirillo, the man behind our Otherness ‘440’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Detroit is beautifully linked to this story and lineage.

The 2023 vintage is delicious. Bright, juicy, fresh and oh so drinkable

Sarah comes to Otherness for different reasons.

After decades working as a chef across South Australia and beyond, she eventually found her way back home to the Barossa.

Now semi-retired, she comes here to slow down a little, share a glass of wine, and spend time with her husband, Grant.

You’ll hear from him soon enough!

Otherness, for so many reasons. What are yours?

New 2024 ‘Urth’ and ‘Skuld’ Rieslings, showcasing the Eden Valley and Clare Valley.

This release reveals the joy of a warmer vintage. Purists might recognise the superior aging potential of those more austere La Niña vintages, but such wines remain stubbornly coiled up and acid-driven for the first few years.

After 2021, 2022 and 2023, it’s a real pleasure to see a newly released Riesling characterised by drinkability and moreishness.

Symposium
Thursday 14th May, 2026
6.00pm at Otherness

Back in 2019, I was judging at the Marananga Wine Show.
As expected, richness of fruit and generosity of flavour characterised most of the Shiraz class. In my memory, one wine stood out, not because it was bigger or because it wore a mantle of more assertive oak, but because it was particularly finessed. Balanced. Almost Cornas-like in its delivery of dark, graphity aromatics and flavour.

Tasted blind, the group of judges expressed surprise at the ‘reveal’ that such a newcomer had blitzed the field.

The wine, made by Belinda Van Eyssen was The Cutting 2017 Shiraz.

I have made a point of following Belinda and Daniel’s wines during the last six years and have admired and enjoyed each of the wines they have released.

Having spoken with Belinda, and tasted with her, she is quick to acknowledge the influence of her ancestral home in South Africa.

Tomorrow night, Belinda will not only show her range of wines but will also pour a couple of seminal South African wines. I will also contribute one of my favourite wines from anywhere in the world, made by Eben Sadie in Swartland.

There are still a few seats available. I’m so looking forward to this one!
