Pahukama Move Within Reach of League Glory After 13–5 Victory Over Players
By Prince Bushu
Warren Park ,Harare — Pahukama Pool Club tightened their stranglehold on the Nevsun Premier Pool League title race on Saturday after overpowering Players Pool Club 13–5 in a decisive Matchday 18 encounter at Widzo Bar, Pfukwa Shopping Centre.
The victory extends Pahukama’s lead at the top of the table to four points ahead of second-placed BnB Mega, setting up a high-stakes showdown between the two sides tomorrow a match that could mathematically seal the championship.
Pahukama started the match on the back foot as Bezel fell to Katenda in the opening frame. But the early setback did little to shake the league leaders. Autherbellz, Programmer, Maluva, Mercy, Figo, and Rooney delivered crucial wins in the first segment, helping Pahukama take control of the match.
Only Sullivan and Aviator suffered defeats in the first half, losing to Tadiwa and Mugova respectively. The segment ended with Pahukama leading 7–2, putting immediate pressure on the visitors.
In the second segment, Players attempted a comeback after Nigere defeated Mambo, but Pahukama quickly reasserted dominance. Deletee, Maluva, Sullivan, Mumu, Aviator, Ndundu and others stepped up, closing out the final frames with precision and confidence.
The match ended 13–5 a statement win that pushed Pahukama closer to their long-awaited league crown.
Pahukama’s position at the top was further strengthened earlier in the day when league officials ruled on last weekend’s contentious match against Island Cue Stars.
The heated fixture had ended in a draw, but one frame between Sullivan (Pahukama) and Matope (Island Cue Stars), was suspended after what referees deemed a bona fide attempt violation by Matope.
After a disciplinary review, the league awarded the disputed frame to Pahukama. Officials also confirmed that Pahukama would receive an additional point from the match, bringing their tally further clear of BnB Mega.
The decision has sparked debate across pool circles, with some clubs welcoming the transparency while others argue the ruling may influence the title race. However, league administrators insist the verdict followed established regulations.
Pahukama’s victory over Players — combined with the disciplinary points gained — means tomorrow’s encounter with BnB Mega could decide the championship.
If Pahukama secure a win, they will move out of reach and claim the 2025 Nevsun Premier Pool League title. A loss, however, would reopen the race heading into the final stretch.
This was one of our most important wins of the season for Pahukama, Tomorrow’s match is like a final for them. There are four points clear, but they still have work to do.
BnB Mega, who have quietly built momentum in the second half of the season, are expected to field their strongest lineup. Their camp believes they still have a realistic chance of turning the tables.
Whether tomorrow brings celebration or suspense, Pahukama have placed themselves firmly at the front of the championship race. With momentum, clarity from the disciplinary ruling, and renewed confidence, the team now stands on the brink of lifting one of the country’s most competitive pool titles.
For now, all roads lead to Matchday 19 — where Pahukama and BnB Mega will collide in what promises to be a defining chapter of the 2025 season.
