Honourable’s
Chirundu has grown beyond a border town. With our strategic position on the Zambezi, trade volumes through the One Stop Border Post, and a young population, *we need Chirundu University.
Why Chirundu needs this now:
1. Stop the brain drain
Our brightest students leave for Lusaka, Choma, or Zimbabwe. Most never return. A local university keeps talent here to build Chirundu.
2. Border economy = specialized skills
We need degrees in Logistics, Customs & Taxation, International Trade, Transport Management. Chirundu University can train the exact workforce our border economy runs on.
3. Youth employment
Over 60% of Chirundu is under 25. A university brings direct jobs – lecturers, admin, maintenance – and indirect jobs – hostels, restaurants, printing, transport.
4. Put Chirundu on the map
From “just a border” to an education hub. It raises our district profile, attracts investment, and gives us leverage for more infrastructure funding.
5. Regional leadership
Tonga/Cuundu region has momentum in music, culture, agriculture. A university cements Chirundu as the intellectual capital of the lower Zambezi valley.
