Off The Wall Pop-Up Restaurant

Off The Wall Pop-Up Restaurant Off The Wall Pop-Up Restaurant is all about the love of great food from all over the world, and providing unmatched service and excellent cuisine.

Off The Wall Pop Up Restaurant is an incredible concept developed by Port Elizabeth-born chef Khanya Mzongwana and Sakhile Ndlazi, better known to most as the prolific Pretoria born and based DJ Bubbles. Off The Wall is a mobile restaurant which offers the complete experience of show-stopping food and amazing eclectic sounds played strictly on vinyl. We developed the idea when we recognized the po

tential our respective skills had to join together and create something awesome, and we also felt a resounding need for young professionals that are part of the creative community to have a sanctuary where they can share ideas and connect in a cool, quirky and comfortable space. We at Off The Wall are inspired and influenced by independent movements that are making an impact in the world of alternative culture. Local brands and businesses like Boston Breweries, BOS Ice Tea, Soh Cocktails, Warm & Glad, Park Acoustics, Ginger & Fig, Arcade Empire, Freedom Cafe and Father Coffee inspire us with their consistent quality, passion and unique style and flair. We aim to infiltrate and gradually become a household name amongst music lovers and foodies alike. We are all about bringing a new energy to the food and music industries, with a solid foundation of character, charisma, funk, soul and a love for the unusual and undiscovered. What makes Off The Wall truly special is that one can always expect something unusual and fresh, be it an exotic menu item they have never tried before, eclectic music from around the world or an outstanding live performance. We also pull out all stops where ingredients are concerned, offering delicious, soulful food made from extraordinary local produce as well as great tasting exotic flavours. We provide a professional service, but have managed to create close relations with our guests, because they are our greatest inspiration of all.

Wassup Stimela family!

We are proud to introduce you to our second for the month of August!

We are pleased to introduce you Khanya Mzongwana! This Port Elizabeth-born, Pretoria-based chef, food stylist and food writing extraordinaire, has been cooking up a storm for the past 12 years.

We asked Khanya to give us a bit of insight into the world of women in the culinary industry, as well as some of her favourite things about beer!

“There are plenty challenges to be faced as a woman in the kitchen to be honest. Women are often sexualized and disrespected in cooking spaces; it’s weird, it’s like food makes all the biggest creeps come out! And with the food industry still being a male dominated space, there’s not a lot of support or back up further up in the hierarchy.
In spite of it all, I’ve been lucky enough to be part of some incredible collaborations, and my personal development as a food practitioner have helped me develop a sound food philosophy and sticking to it!

What’s really just satisfying is an ice cold beer to gulp down after a long day on my feet in the kitchen! I also love the creative direction beer is headed at the moment. It’s become so fire now, from the quirky Brewer names to the edgy packaging right down to the brew itself; we’ve got so many more delicious options. Beer also rocks because of its prebiotic qualities, stimulating the growth of good bacteria in your tummy!

I’ve found that in Black culture, there is a stigma towards female beer-drinkers because it was normally drunk by our fathers in shebeens, and drinking it would present you as a woman a threat, like you possessed some type of notoriety front drinking something so bitter as opposed to a sugary cider “like a lady”.

Favourite Stimela brew? Platform Edge! Bold, bright and fruity IPA. It’s a big beer that’s not for everyone and I’m okay with it. It’s kinda like me!

Final words of encouragement to women aspiring to enter the culinary industry: Push through and occupy spaces unapologetically! Remember that you belong where you’re at and that you are capable of being the cook you’ve always dreamed to be. Don’t be shy - networking is hard for an anxious girl but talk to people about your work, you never know who might be listening.”
