Sad news, the passing of Lunga "General" Magxaka, I've started to be friend of Lunga, when we were very young, through "itshaleji" or a street soccer in Zwide.
What made us to be friends, its because we were very skillfull young soccer players players kwitshaleji, due to that fact we were a trio, myself, Duva and General, we were recruited by different clubs, I went to play for Highlands Power or Wha Wha, Lunga and Duva they joined Dogers in Soweto on Sea, they started recruiting me to join them, when I was at the brink of joining Dogers, also PE Tigers was persuading me to join them. At that time Lunga gave me a nickname called "Pro" because, I was a scoring machine in Highlands Power unders, even in PE Tigers
I had to way options between two clubs, but PE Tigers became my joice. Then, I've started recruiting them to join PE Tigers but I've managed to win Duva and Lunga remain in Dogers, we've discovered that Lunga had a love Soweto and his club.
Second an encounter with Lunga was when we became friends with Mpulelo Pele Sonamzi, Lizwi Nkombela and Mthobi Zondani his long standing friend from primary school
We started to have jam sessions with "galfriends" at Lunga's home, started having fun, drinking, talking lot of important topics ranging from business, politics, sport and other interesting subjects @ His home @ Lusa Street
How did Lunga started business, he started selling, cool drinks and ice cream and he press on selling to us first or we became his first clients as friends, even his girlfriend had to buy a drink or ice cream, and Lunga didn't like wastefull expenditure in his business, sometimes, we will criticize him for not buy a drink or ice cream for the galfriend but he will flatly refused and say "Pro" this is business and I want grow it, step by step, to become a solid business, he had a dream and long term business vision, whom he realized
One of his business initiative then, he partnered with Lizwi Nkombela a cash loan business which was fast growing business. You may see that this man was serious about and his not a character to work any one or seeing himself having a boss, except for himself or become his own boss, and once more he a complishe his mission
Although, he had love and passion for business, we have continued to socialize together as friends, from jam sessions, braai's, from taverns to tavern, we used to enjoy our life and nature very much and to the best of our ability, as young people within Zwide
What was interestingly about those social activities, Lunga will always emphasize into "inkazathi" ebengadlali ngemali, he will count every cent he spends, ngesiXhosa ebeligqolo
But that's what made him a solid and successful business man and I've no doubt about it ndiqinisekile.
Even at the time he got new galfriend whom later, she became his wife, infact, we were together at his home having a braai when one of our female friend from his street, joined us on our jam sessions, she broke "news" that guys,I've a friend who's very lonely and want a boyfriend, eish, it was a difficult subject, after such news were shared to us being under the influence, you can imagine amongst the vultures and sharks but all of us voted for Lunga as he was "isishumane" then amongst ourselves and we said to our female friend to bring her during the June school holiday's, as she was studying at Pentec at the time.
When she arrived, we welcomed her as friends at Lunga's home and gave her a very nice reception which landed at Elwandle Tavern, that's where the relationship started and a month later Lunga became so serious in his affair, and in one of our jam session, he declared to all of us, that, is going to get married to her and he will want our support whom we did without a failure and eventually he got married @ Sisonke Community Hall
Interest story, he said "Pro" I'm taking my galfriend out at Spur but what me it's share this story, it was when he came back and said we've shared the plata with her and she is not an expensive woman, hence, I've to marry her, yhooooo I've laughed him and said mchana 'ulitshangane'
He even repeated that his wedding ceremony
Then the man is very serious about business and life
Fast forward, he said guys I've bought a house at Nhose Street and is going to start a tarven and we became excited and supported him
That business grew up from strength to strength and became a solid social space, Jazz Club Cafee where all walk of life assemblied with different background, from ordinary workers, peasants, business persons, academics, proffessionals, strategist and and so on.
This resulted to the coming into being of the Generals led by Chair Seelo Headbush
My last meeting with him at his place, it was a Sunday, with Sonwabo Mpevane, Fiki, Chris Jamda, Mbazo, Mancane, Kaizer and many more.
You've left an excellent legacy and lasting footprint
You have left lot Orphans whom they lost their parent
That's you General
May your Soul Rest Peace
General will miss and go and join other Generals who have left us during this COVID 19
