What’s Happening at Elephant Foot Eco Estate 🐾

It’s never a dull day here! Even with a bit of dry weather, we’ve got pomegranates coming along—our neighbors have thousands, we’ve got about ten, just to keep the competition spicy! The figs, olives, and tomatoes are joining the party, and our Elephant Foot seedlings are growing strong.
This week’s highlight: five elands strolling across the hill while we were having our morning coffee on the deck ☕.
It’s hard to complain about the view when your “neighbors” have horns and perfect posture.

And hey, we’ve still got a few building sites (sold as PTY shares) if you want to join in on the fun. So if you’ve been dreaming of an off-grid spot where you can grow a few pomegranates, sip coffee with elands in the distance, and occasionally chase rabbits out of the mealies — come have a look.
We’ll put the kettle on 🫖

A day late for International Stout Day, but right on time for a Friday celebration!
Our creamy Thorny Creek Stout was once a fav - rich, smooth, and even found its way into pancakes!
Cheers to those 7 years of brewing and now to new beginnings at Elephant Foot Eco Estate!

After seven years of pouring, baking, and sharing stories at Thorny Creek Brewery and the Red Bus Cafe, our journey has taken a natural turn.
We've settled into the Klein Karoo - where the wind smells of sage, the stars shine brightly, and a rare desert plant called Dioscorea Elephantipes - the Elephant Foot - grows wild on our land. It's become our symbol andour name: Elephant Foot Eco Estate.
Here, four households will build their homes and their lifestyles - off-grid, solar powered, surrounded by nature. A place for sustainable leaving, where simplicity and beauty meet. We still brew, we still bake, we still create - only now it all happens under the wide Karoo sky.
If this new chapter feels far from your interests, we understand completely. Please feel free to step off here but before you go, we'd be grateful if you shared this page with friends who might love this dream we're building.
For everyone who stays: welcome to Elephant Foot. Let's grow something extraordinary together.

A Weiss beer brewed and kegged with double coriander and a little extra aromatic hops AT THE OLD BREWERY WAY BELOW OUR BUILDING SITE NUMBER THREE - see the view from the site on the video.
The changes in this Weiss recipe have added a richness of flavours and aromas ideal for winter sunsets.
Cheers to our lovely building site 3!

For the most demanding food lovers out there, try fried ricotta with brewers spent grain. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside due to the ricotta’s texture and the grain brings that seed and nutty mystery.
BSG we used is a biproduct of brewing Weiss, it has a bit of coriander in it which results in a super interesting combination of flavours - mild ricotta, honey …. and coriander.

Follow this page for info of the next brew day!
