Bar with a View: Two Goats Deli and Brewery, Nieu-Bethesda
We’ve come to Two Goats Deli and Brewery in Nieu-Bethesda in the Eastern Cape to taste what’s on offer. After our attempts at finding a cool bar had come to naught the day before, it’s a relief to find ourselves at this wonderful shabby chic bar and restaurant with this tanned former Cape Town boy. We tried different beers – two Karoo
ales, one honey ale and one roasted ale. The beer comes with a cheese platter, with cheeses made on the property, including gouda, cheddar and a creamy goat’s cheese with olives and brandy, pickled cucumber and homemade Rosemary bread. But it was with the smoked kudu salami that I had a real religious experience In fact, I can still taste it now, hours later. We unanimously chose the Karoo ale as the favourite, while the roasted ale came in second – imagine a light form of Guinness, only better - while the honey ale got two votes. The Brewery is set in a great location with views of the hills, a stream on the property and a vegetable garden at the bottom of the house. For Joburgers and Capetonians who long for slow living and hanker for a farm, this bar is the right kind of environment. With the beers only costing R15 and case R200 (you can mix a case to your preference), you might just find yourself coming back here for more. Lerato Tshabalala
