Wild about Whisky was founded in 2006 by three whisky fanatics - Dave Gunns, Steve Adams and Eve Gunns. Our mission is to give our customers the opportunity to taste great whiskies from around the world, and to provide them with a fun learning experience. By early 2016 we had over 1100 whiskies the bar, and featured 30 set tastings. Our specialist retail outlet opened in 2011, and being adjacent t

o the bar it gives customers the opportunity to try before they buy. We launched our online retail shop in 2014, and are building a loyal client base of whisky lovers all over South Africa.

A trip to Scotland in 2006 inspired Dave to create South Africaโ€™s premier whisky destination in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga. Today, Wild About Whisky is renowned for its extensive collection of over 1600 malts and numerous other spirits.

As an educator and specialist retailer, Dave is widely regarded as one of South Africaโ€™s foremost authorities on spirits. His expertise spans whisky tastings, education, and retail, making him a valuable addition to our judging panel.

Dave has been part of the Trophy Spirits Show since 2019, ensuring that excellence is recognised and celebrated in the world of spirits.

Earlier this year, we had the honour of meeting the legendary Dr. Bill Lumsden at the launch of Glenmorangieโ€™s new Triple Cask Reserve - a whisky that truly embodies his visionary craft.

Widely considered the โ€˜Rock-Star Wizard of Whisky,โ€™ Dr. Bill holds a PhD in biochemistry and has led the art of distilling and whisky creation at and for over 25 years. His commitment to innovation has redefined the industry, and this latest release is no exception.

The Triple Cask Reserve brings together three unique cask types: ex-bourbon, new charred oak and rare ex-rye. This blend of casks creates a deeply layered dram, rich in character and bursting with sweet, spicy, harmonious flavour.

From the first pour to the final toast, the launch was a celebration of flavour, passion, and storytelling - a reminder of why we first fell in love with whisky.
