With the score now in our cast’s voices, rehearsals have moved into blocking, staging and choreography. The opening of the show and Good Morning Baltimore are already on their feet, The Nicest Kids in Town is taking shape, and this extraordinary company is throwing itself into every step, harmony and scene.

Here’s a little glimpse behind the rehearsal-room doors: focus, laughter, sweat, notes, repetition and a whole lot of heart.

This is where the magic begins—and with every rehearsal, we move one step closer to welcoming audiences into our bold, joyful and wonderfully colourful Baltimore.

Meet Tracy Turnblad.

She starts Hairspray with one very clear dream: dance on The Corny Collins Show. But Tracy has never been particularly good at accepting that the world should stay exactly as it is.

She loves music, movement, fashion and people with her whole heart. She takes up space joyfully, speaks before fear can catch up, and when she sees a rule that keeps people out, she does not quietly walk around it.

That is what makes Tracy more than the girl with the big hair. She walks into Baltimore believing there should be room for everyone — and then starts changing the beat until the world around her has to listen.
