Let’s play : Fun Fact Friday💫
Q: How did you become an Artist?
A: I’d like to say it happened by accident, but when I think about it, it happened organically when the time was right.
Keeping in mind my art teacher at school pulled me aside
one day and said “you need to drop art, it’s not for you,
you have no talent.”
Luckily I didn’t let that harsh criticism grow roots,
however sadly I did drop art as a subject.
I’ve always been involved in something arty.
Art and my creative energy has transcended over so
many different spheres in my lifetime.
I’ve always been creative, from a child, you could always
find me building a fairy garden or at my weekly canvass painting classes and weekly ceramic classes.
My favourite pastime was always coloring in with those
lovely thick, bright and bold pencils, or pastels.
I’ve never been a watercolor kinda girl can you tell?
As a teenager I delved into drama and acting, ending up in Grahamstown for 6weeks in my matric year performing
for the arts festival. I loved being on stage.
In my early 20’s I owned a mediterranean inspired restaurant for 4 years - I come from a cooking and baking background.
I then worked in real estate for 14 years which I loved and thrived at. I also worked in the venue hire and events coordinating industry for many years along side my
other day jobs. I hustled hard in my 20’s & 30’s💫
So whether it’s a canvass, a stage, a plate of food or a clay sculpture I’ve always found a way to create, or honour my own artistic, creative calling.
Looking back, I suppose ceramics and living a full time
creative life was always on the cards.
I just needed time to catch up with me.
And perhaps that art teacher was wrong after all.
In life, timing really is everything.
