How Naked Face Brewing was born

I grew up in San Diego California the IPA capitol of the world. Fifteen years ago I met a girl from South Africa and fell in love. I started making trips to South Africa to see her. I noticed there was very few beer options other than the major Domestic Lager. In 2008 I decided that one day I would open a craft brewery in South Africa and I bought my first homebrewing kit. I started brewing partial mash beers in my tiny kitchen in my one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco. Luckily my first few beers came out delicious and I was hooked. In 2011 my wife and I moved back down to San Diego where I grew up. We were lucky enough to rent a house with a 2 car garage which became the all-grain brewery. I was brewing 10 gallon (40 liter) all-grain batches and needless to say I was popular in the neighborhood. After 5 years in San Diego we made the big decision to move to Quinne’s home country. We sold everything and landed in Johannesburg. I decided to work full time in the craft beer industry. I started with Africa Hops importing Hops, Malt and Yeast and selling them to other craft breweries in the country. After 2 years I decided it was time to jump in and start my own brewery. I bought a 400 liter brewery and moved in with Eben Roux at the Three Stags brewery location and Naked Face Brewing was born. We have recently opened our tasting room where you can drop by any Friday between 3 pm and 7pm and try some free samples.
