Meeting Again (for the first time)
I met her again for the first time
A legion of seasons had passed
The years had swept over and through us
A mountain of dies had been cast
I found her familiar yet different
Unknown and yet strangely the same
The contrast between who we once were
And who, over time, we became
Commencing with pleasant exchanges
We cautiously shared and inquired
Of life’s many pleasures and triumphs
And tragic events that transpired
We spoke of decisions and choices
Some inconsequential and moot
Yet others with ramifications
From poorly sown seeds that bore fruit
Our dialogue weaved and meandered
O’er topics both weighty and small
Conversing on matters of substance
And other times, nothing at all
The sheltering sky stretched above us
A vast panorama of blue
It seemed to induce reminiscing
On all of the things we’d been through
We drank from the cup of nostalgia
And toasted the forthcoming years
Lamenting how days pass so quickly
And how fast our youth disappears
We walked by the banks of the river
Where currents and sentiments flowed
Their rhythm in tune to our heartbeat
Affections so richly bestowed
While strolling past fountains and gardens
Emotions, long dormant, emerged
The wind shifted ever so slightly
The past and the present converged
Near bridges of dreams, I embraced her
On boardwalks of cedar, we kissed
My thoughts spanned the years and reflected
On past opportunities missed
The sidewalks were bustling with people
The young and the old passing by
Yet, standing there nestled together,
It felt there were just her and I
I treasure that day by the river
And later, our walks in the park
The intimate moments together
Her whispering voice in the dark
