It’s been a month since The 26th Vancouver Improv Festival, and the dust has finally settled on another amazing year! On behalf of our festival organizing team (Amy, Brigitte, Curt, Ese and Jordy), we want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this year’s fest such a memorable one.

THANK YOU to:
- all of the audience members and participants who attended our 17 shows and 10 public workshops
- the 50 festival artists who shared their talent and passion with the Vancouver community
- festival musicians and
- all the staff and technicians at our amazing venues and
- for their welcome on opening night
- our amazing stage managers and .kent

Each year at the Vancouver Improv Festival, we like to organize a panel discussion around a topic we feel inspired to explore from different perspectives. Welcoming artists from near and far, the festival is an opportunity to expand your understanding of improvisation and to hear about what is happening in communities around the globe.

This year, our theme is Taking a Leap. We will speak to risk taking and innovation both on stage and off. We will talk about that important moment when you decide to move forward with a big decision: be that opening a theatre, disbanding your old improv troupe, or trying a new format. We’ll also discuss what our community needs are and what innovation in improv looks like in 2024 and beyond.

But the party is JUST getting started. Join us tonight for Scout's Honour and Festival Ensemble at 7:30 PM, and THEN at 9:30 PM we have Seasoned and Det Andre Teatret (The Other Theatre). It's going to be a fabulous night of improv magic, and you will NOT want to miss out.

The 26th Annual Vancouver Improv Festival starts today at 7:30 PM with Duo Pop-Up Show!

Hosted by the amazing Ese Atawo, Duo Pop-Up Show pairs up improvisers who have never played with each other from across the festival to create a guaranteed night of comedic magic -- all captured live in stunning drawings! It's safe to say that this is a once in a lifetime show, 'cause who knows when these duos will be paired up again?

Join us for a celebration of improv, laughter, and community - and then join us all week for the wonderful programming we have lined up 💚

We know that improv shows can be a challenging environment for audience members. If you're someone who has avoided improv due to fear of being singled out, interviewed, or made fun of, we have a feature at the festival this year that might be of interest.

Outside each of the theatre spaces, audience members will find “Interaction Buttons”. All audience members are invited to wear a button to signal to the improvisors, staff, and other people in the space, what level of interaction you are comfortable with during the performance.

There are three button colour choices:
● Green indicates I feel comfortable interacting
● Yellow indicates I may be open to interacting. Please ask me first
● Red indicates I am not comfortable with interacting at this time.

Artist Spotlight: SCOUT'S HONOUR

Scout's Honour is made up of three boyishly charming improvisors who have left the bear-infested woods of Nelson, BC to earn their badges in storytelling, comedy, and good-natured fun. Michelle Hart, Jackie Atkins, and Lindsay Mullan aim to leave Vancouver audiences with a big smile and the knowledge necessary to construct a campfire safely.

Scout's Honour takes inspiration from both "The Armando Diaz Experience" and Keith Johnstone's format "Gorilla Theatre". Our show focuses on short form narrative scene work while utilizing different schools of thought from the world of improvisation. Add in a dash of wholesome Boy Scouts of Canada energy and you've got a delightful little show presented by a very charming trio.
