Bordeaux Index

Bordeaux Index 25 years ago we started with the passion of a few wine & spirits lovers, we are now the world’s leading fine wine merchant. This is Bordeaux Index.

Established in 1997, Bordeaux Index began with the passion of a few wine & spirit lovers looking to redefine the way a wine merchant works. Today we are one of the leading global fine wine merchants with offices in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Los Angeles. With an emphasis on an unparalleled client relationship, transparency and innovative technology, Bordeaux Index became a major disruptor in

the trade. Our product offering covers wine and spirits from all over the world including the famous French wineries of Le Pin, Cheval Blanc, and Chateau Margaux. During 2009 Bordeaux Index introduced LiveTrade, the world's first online wine trading platform with firm bid and offer prices available 24 hours a day. LiveTrade won the ‘Best Online Trading Platform’ at The Drinks Business Awards 2020, described as a ‘game-changer’. Everything we do is driven by a restless passion for changing the way that fine wine and spirits are traded across the globe. That restlessness has seen us place our passion for excellence, and all we know about fine wine, into the creation of a cutting edge transparent trading technology, which now redefines the way that wine is bought and sold. We aim to make the world of fine wine accessible to a broader audience, demystifying the process. Bordeaux Index has promoted an unstuffy and innovative approach to selling fine wine for both consumption and investment. Buying and selling wine is only part of the Bordeaux Index package: we also offer the finest wine storage facilities in the UK. To ensure your wine is kept in perfect condition, we store our customer reserves in The Colerne Reserve, a brand new, state of the art wine storage facility operated by Octavian – the world's leading long term fine wine storage provider. Our own Bordeaux Index dedicated team checks every case in and out, thus giving you the reassurance that your valuable wines are in the best possible hands. We serve as the connector between you, the customer, and the greatest wines and spirits.

Who doesn’t love a good ‘coming-of-age’ story? 🍷

In 2025, Bordeaux Index celebrates 18 years in Asia - a milestone that speaks to more than just growth for BI. It reflects the transformation of the fine wine market across the region and Asia’s huge influence on the global stage.

Looking back to our arrival in Hong Kong in 2007, Guy Ruston, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, shares his perspective on how far both the business and the market have come - and what that journey has meant for Bordeaux Index.

"Pitching up in Hong Kong in 2007, keen to plant our flag in a burgeoning wine hub, I don’t think anyone at Bordeaux Index or the wider industry, could have predicted the journey that the wine trade would subsequently go on."

In one of the most ambitious single barrel programmes ever, WhistlePig Whiskey and Bordeaux Index have collaborated to release The Encyclopedia of Rye, a series of limited-edited single barrel, cask strength whiskies designed to showcase the full spectrum of styles and flavours offered by rye whiskey.

In 2023, Volume I of The Encyclopedia of Rye launched with whiskey aged 11 years in cask. Now, we’re thrilled to unveil the next chapter in the series, Volume II, aged 12 years, and for the first time, the collection is available to purchase by the individual bottle.

Mitch Maher, WhistlePig's Research and Development Distiller notes, "WhistlePig began with a dream to unlock the potential of Rye Whiskey through extended and experimental maturation. The Encyclopedia is one of our most ambitious endeavours toward that goal - a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the depths of our Single Barrel warehouse."

Two Vintages, One Debate 🍾

Today we host a super special 1995 V. 1996 Champagne Tasting, bringing producers, clients, and writers together to revisit two landmark years.

We have a fantastic line up to taste:

"A tasting that sets these two Vintages side by side hasn't been attempted in quite some time... Essi Avellan MW noted in her vintage guide '1995 has turned out to be much better than first expected and it has emerged from the shadow of the much-hyped 1996.' Which begs the question: nearly three decades on, which vintage has best stood the test of time?

Our Sales Director, David, was over in Bordeaux last week and caught the start of harvest kicking off in Saint-Émilion and Pomerol.

With drought conditions impacting yields, recent rain has refreshed the vines, with the grapes coming in in perfect condition.

There are hopes that while this might be a smaller vintage, it could be a great one...

Time will tell! 🍇🍇🍇

⭐The final chapter of our Road to MW series is here! 🍷

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been spotlighting three incredible women taking on the prestigious Master of Wine qualification.

For our last instalment, we hear from Phoebe French, Content Manager at Majestic, as she shares her MW journey.

On a recent trip to Bordeaux with fellow students, Phoebe found herself staring into a glass of 1936 Yquem. “Mind-blowing,” she says. A perfect snapshot of what the MW is all about - rare opportunities, unforgettable moments, and the immense weight of history and knowledge behind every sip.
