Was going to end quietly but Whitsunday foods have put up a lovely post and interview so maybe need to make it official. 43 years in the Whitsundays and 23 years in business comes to a fork in the road tomorrow with the last wedding, fittingly enough at VMR. The company will shut down tomorrow after multiple incarnations, 3 locations in Airlie, restaurants in Cairns and Mackay, catering, day boat catering , super yachts and more recently even home delivery and bareboat provisioning all trying to adapt to the ever changing nature of this fickle industry. The bareboat provisioning in in great hands moving forward with Ben, Alex and Danielle. Rebecca will continue in the private chef space bringing her famous food to boutique events and private parties and our legacy will continue with White on Whitehaven now an established and iconic local event with Margie from Airlie events helping it transition (and yes.. I will be coming out of retirement this year to pull the strings). We have worked with great suppliers, a few of whom deserve special mention. Jamie and Jen at the prickly pineapple, Don and Karen at master butchers, cricky and Pat from Whitsunday food service, Kelly, shona, woody and Ralph at rewards, Matt and Bron at Fishi, Travis and Nathan at Rynns seafood and my all time favourite Trevor an Teens Draper. Far more than just our fisherman. Salt of the earth. To the wonderful people who worked for us, the apprentices we trained and most of all our customers, many of whom became personal friend’s, thanks for the memories, the occasional hangover and for making “ fishy D’s” part of the community.,
