Department of Chemistry Bar is located at the Lamarck University, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. Wait! What!? I know it is hard to believe at first but eveything will be more clear now. so join us on our journey back to a mythical place and time where we will be going a special tour, step by step!

Back in time, between 1880 and 1940 the Lamarck University was thriving with both the children of wealthy locals and the children of Colonial residents. In the 1940’s the University was closed, mothballed and stood still in time. A number of the buildings were lost and all of it fell into disrepair. Luckily, Sungroup saw the potential and commission ed the world famous architect Bill Bensley to return the site to its former glory, this time in the form of Phu Quoc’s most elegant international five-star hotel – the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald.

As the story goes, Lamarck University was the intellectual and educational pinnacle of Phu Quoc Island. The bay of Bai Khem was first inhabited in the late 1700’s, almost 100 years before the University opened and you can still find the buildings from this time as you walk down the Rue De Lamarck. At the end of Rue De Lamarck, you can see the Department of Chemistry Bar overlooking the beautiful beach.

The Department of Chemistry was a marvel at the time of the University. As the story goes the students of this major were able to create dazzling displays of chemical reactions which wowed the rest of the campus.
