Look closely, and the walls tell their own story.

Blue beneath pink, pink beneath grey - traces of the house from different times, painted over but never completely gone. Over the years, each layer has slowly found its way back to the surface.

For our regular guests, Mari needs little introduction.

Since the early days of Covid, she has spent her days welcoming guests, looking after familiar faces and creating the warm, personal atmosphere that has become such an important part of who we are.

Many of you have come to know her well over the years, and some visits to The Hill Station simply would not feel quite the same without her.

So this is not really an introduction, but a little moment of recognition for the warmth, care and personality she has brought, and continues to bring, to The Hill Station.

Every room has its own light.

This one leans warm - burnt orange walls that have seen decades come and go, a jade green shutter, and a small wooden table set for four.

If you sit here for a while, you'll notice how the afternoon light slowly moves across the room. Nothing really changes, yet the room somehow feels different from one hour to the next.

There's a small ritual to a good crostini.

A warm baguette from Em's Bakery, sliced thin and toasted just enough. A generous spread of blue cheese, sharp and full of character. Then a spoonful of beetroot jam, bringing a little sweetness and earthiness to the mix.

Simple ingredients, a little contrast and a combination that keeps finding its way back onto the table.
