I first arrived at LBD on January 5th, 2014, and like most guests I was hopelessly lost in Old Quarter.
While walking back and forth I was stopped by a tiny woman asking if I needed help, I accepted and was given directions and advice while enjoying a much needed cappuccino.
I returned.
First it was dinner that night, then the next night and then every night that week and then for the entire 3 weeks I had planned to stay in Vietnam.
The woman that helped me was Hong, the owner of the Little Black Duck. So I decided to stay in Vietnam and help run the restaurant as the manager. I had never been a manager at a restaurant before, so I was constantly learning (and mostly making mistakes, as I have been told). One thing I learned is that our guests were what made working in that business memorable.
Due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews, we maintained a high ranking in tripadvisor, it was very generous from you all. Some nights we might not have deserved such high praise but we always worked hard to improve.
I want to personally thank my staff, past and present that made it possible to give the highest standard of service and who really made our business great, and who taught me more about being a manager than I ever taught them.
To our customers for making every day interesting and who loved our food as much as I did.
And finally to Hong for giving me the opportunity to work and live in an adventure of a lifetime.
We will start a new business some day, some where, and when we do you are all welcome.
Good bye, but not for long...
