Located in the lower level of the York Harbor Inn, you’ll feel as though you are boarding a fine Newport Sailing Vessel, as you descend below deck into a multi-room tavern and lounge finished in a dazzling display of fine woodwork and joinery. Mahogany decking and shop lap boards create a rich, warm glow, while delicate in-lays of exotic woods and veneers celebrate the tradition of Maine’s wooden

boat building reputation. Cozy, comfortable, leather cushioned “settees” create compartments and nooks for dining and lounging. Ted has been a regular performer at the YHI for decades!
Come see Ted in our Cellar Pub on Saturday Oct 25th 8pm

In 1994, Showcase Magazine ran a piece on Grateful Ted, penned by the one-and-only Scot Geliznas. Dover knew Ted well. Theodore “Ted” Solovicos was the soul of Lost Chord on the upper square, and before that, at Lacy’s Lines and Lyrics. It was in these shops, and with those booking live music, Ted championed local musicians.

Grateful Ted had an ear for talent. He stocked the vinyl, tapes, and CDs of bands he believed were bound for bigger things, including Say Zuzu, Thanks to Gravity, Heavens to Murgatroid, Groovechild, Blind Justice, and Osta-Karre. He said these bands mattered, and for some local teens in the late ’80s and ’90s, flipping through his bins was the first time they understood the New Hampshire seacoast could make music to stand beside legends.

Ted also helped keep vinyl alive, long before the record revival of today. He believed in its staying power, once saying that “today’s bargain is tomorrow’s collector’s item.”

Earlier in his career, Ted fronted the North Shore rock band Smuggler, who opened for acts like Bon Jovi, Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, and John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

Ted never stopped performing. As Grateful Ted, his percussive acoustic sets were amazing. In 2017, he returned to Dover for a show at the Strand that felt less like a gig and more like a homecoming.

Ted is still making music with Rosemarie in their project Mystical Magic. His vision hasn’t changed: great songs never fade, and community is what makes music endure.
