he barren landscape of flavorless, industrial, big beer that has dominated the American beer scene for generations. It’s a place you can escape to and a place you long to return to. It’s also the people – our customers (we like to call them “citizens”), and our employees (our “agents”) who work diligently to provide thirsty beer seekers, and their friends and family, with a better option. Opened in September 2016 and with one current location, we are all a new nation of beer drinkers, makers, enthusiasts, advocates, and story-tellers. A simple question like that actually has a modestly complex answer. Functionally, Brew Republic is a 4,000 square foot craft brewery and full-service brewpub located in a high-end retail development in the heart of the Potomac River shoreline community of Woodbridge, Virginia, directly positioned on the I-95 corridor. We brew our award-winning hand-crafted ales and lagers on-site, in our ten barrel brewing system that can turn out up to about 1,200 barrels per year. We specialize in making a diverse range of classic beer styles using proper locally-sourced ingredients (when available) and proven methods to do so. The beer is complimented by delicious food, wine and cocktails, house-made artisanal sodas, fun entertainment (such as live music, trivia, music bingo, karaoke, comedy, beer tastings, and food pairings), and agents that are friendly, hard-working, knowledgeable and equipped to foster an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming with a South Beach vibe. Our taproom also hosts a number of events throughout the year, including our premier Woodbridge Beer Fest, Oktoberfest, Brew Year’s Eve; we co-host the Taste of Woodbridge and the Woodbridge Fall Fest and Chili Cookoff; and we host a number of private events, such as office holiday parties, weddings, receptions, retirement and promotion parties, graduation events, and more. But as our name might suggest, brewing beer is only half the equation. The word “republic” was chosen deliberately to reflect our philosophy: people deserve a destination they can escape to and enjoy better beer and good times. There are two elements to this ethos: the people and the destination. The people are first and foremost, our citizens – the consumer – without whom none of this matters. It’s obviously important to brew delicious beer made the right way, but if nobody is there to drink it, that delicious beer becomes a lot like that tree that fell in the woods. We spend more time focusing on our citizens than we do on the beer we make – which is saying a lot because we obsess over the beer we make. The people of the republic also include us: the brewers, the bartenders/servers, kitchen agents, barbacks, the sales team, the accountants, lawyers, and vendors, the people who sweep the floor or clean the bathrooms… all of us. Our industry partners and the folks at other breweries and restaurants where our beer is on tap are part of this thing too. We are all in it together. The second element of our philosophy is the destination. Brew Republic exists physically, but it is as much a mental getaway as it is a physical location. We believe that beer is fun, and as such is the perfect escape from the tired, mundane, workday and sometimes very ugly realities of everyday life. That escape can be found in our taproom, but that escape can also be found wherever you find a glass of our wonderful beer. In other words, it doesn’t matter where you physically are; if you’re drinking a Brew Republic beer, you’re in the Republic, and that’s a great place to be. So, when someone asks you what Brew Republic is, tell them it’s about the beer, the people, and the destination. All three are true, and in no certain order, they are our priorities and the elements of who we are – our solemn pledge to all of you and each of our citizens. To the Republic!
