The Hillandalers Snowmobile Club

The Hillandalers Snowmobile Club The Hillandalers Snowmobile Club, Winthrop Maine

The Winthrop Maine Hillandalers Snowmobile Club was formed in 1969 to promote snowmobiling in Winthrop as a safe, fun, family-oriented winter sport. The club manages over 30 miles of winter recreational trails on private and public lands in Winthrop for snowmobiles and other public users, with a mixture of local and “thru” trails that are part of an interconnected trail system that allows winter travel throughout the State of Maine, and beyond.

Trails are bare in most places in town now. Landowners are calling about damage from sleds that are still riding. Hillandalers trails are closed for the season. Please respect the landowners that allow us use of their land.

We hope everyone had a great season riding. We have received a lot of positive comments about our trail system and our signage. Thank you to all that joined or donated to the club this season. For those who did not join, it isn't too late. Our expenses were high this season, a couple new bridges, several trail reroutes, and many hours of grooming. Those of us that have the time to volunteer love snowmobiling and grooming. Membership dues and donations keep fuel in the tanks and repairs able to be made.

Thank you and anything helps. Donation and membership links can be found on our FB page.

If anyone still wonders why trails are being closed.....here is your sign.

This little 100 foot disrespect trail, (that goes over a flowerbed btw) cuts a corner on a groomed trail going to the gas station in town. Absolutely no need to go off the marked trail.

As a parent of a 10 yr old rider I have had to educate him on why we cant do things like this. He isnt perfect, and none of us are. If he wants to have trails when he has kids of his own, the current mindset has to change.

If you are an adult and disrespecting landowners like this, be a better person. If you are a parent of a young rider, educate them. We love seeing all the people out getting to ride. Please help the club keep the trails we have.

The high sun angle is getting us down to bare ground on south facing slopes. This is the ramp onto Annabessacook by the new boat launch.

I put the front blade on the wheeler to good use this morning. That plow build on the wheeler is a game changer for us. Made the Honda into a mini dozer.

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE!!!

23C From Maranacook lake south side to north side (Trestle bypass) and 23c towards Berry Pond and Wayne is closed. Ropes and no snowmobiling signs have been put up at the lake access points.

The landowner with the property outlined in orange has closed their property to us due to ongoing issues with speed, off trail riding and general disrespect.

This trail is important to local riders due to it being the only safe route around the Rail Road Trestle and the open water under it. If anyone has ideas or would like to head up the search for another trail location please reach out to us.

Stop by and see us. Tell us how he trails are. Join or make a donation. You can even take a sled ride on our sliding hill, you may have to fight a 4 grader for a sled though.

There are many times that after 25 years as trailmaster, dealing with trail closures, reroutes, complaints, and our lack luster winters, I have asked myself why do I bother. Then while building another roller for the club my 10 yr old says "can we make a roller my size?"

Heck ya!! He cut, welded, and painted the whole thing. Proud dad moment.

This is why I do it. I love snowmobiling, my boys love it, my wife loves it. This is a great family sport we have at our doorstep. Don't take it for granted.

We completed our trail reroute to Little Cobbossee today. Thank you to the landowners that allowed us new access. Please be respectful of all landowners. Without them, we have no trail system.

In the last couple weeks we cut 1500 feet of new trail. Hours of chain saw work, an afternoon with an excavator, and today we built a new bridge. Thank you to everyone that came out this morning to help in decking the bridge.

We have opened the gates and removed any closed signs that needed to come down. We have also installed a new set of green informational sign beside the dam on the south end of Carlton Pond.

On the attached picture the new section of trail is in YELLOW. The green section, from Little Cobbossee to the new yellow trail, is the same as in years past.

While the trail reroute is complete, there really needs to be more snow on it. The section we had to cut and excavate is very rough currently.

We are asking for assistance once again on Sunday 1/11/26 for a new trail reroute completion.

We have already mapped, marked, cleared, and signed a reroute needed for Trail #36 power lines going east to Little Cobbossee, Big Cobbossee, and Manchester trails. Our final step requires a short bridge over a stream. The beams are in place, the lumber will be delivered, and assistance as always would be appreciated. Bring screw/impact guns and Torx Tips if you have them.

We are meeting Sunday January 11th at 10:00 a.m. on Partridge Run Road (off Carlton Pond Rd) just before the last house on the right.

Thanks everyone.
