Gallucio’s family, friends, fellow musicians — thank you all for coming together Thursday to honor and celebrate the life of Bobby Joe Bloomingdale.
He wasn’t just the bassist in Kid Davis and the Bullets. He was a brother — the steady, soulful anchor that held it all together. His playing had a rare magic that didn’t shout for attention, but you couldn’t ignore it. It was in the way he slid between the notes, the way he made space feel full, and silence feel intentional. He didn’t just play the bass. He understood it — like it was an old friend he’d grown up with.
And anyone who was lucky enough to be at Gallucio’s on a Thursday night knows exactly what I’m talking about.
Bobby gave us more than music. He gave us presence. Loyalty. Laughter. He had a quiet wisdom and a deep reservoir of kindness that he shared freely — usually without saying much. Just a nod. A smirk. A perfectly timed joke when things got too serious. He didn’t need the spotlight. He didn’t chase applause. He just played.
And though the stage at Gallucio’s will never feel quite the same, his spirit lingers in every note, every beat, every memory we made together under those dim lights and creaky floorboards.
Rest easy, Bobby. Thank you for the Thursdays. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the love. But most of all thank you for your friendship.

Tune into The Roots Show on WVUD Friday morning at 9 am as Kid Davis and Scott pay tribute and celebrate the life and music of the one and only R.J. Bloomingdale. Bobby. Bobmo. In the hospital Michael told Bobby he was the purest musician he knew, and Bob proudly repeated that to Scott several times. Tune in and help us sweep up his stardust (which will be a lifelong deal)
as we try to figure out how this song goes on without him.
