I want to apologize for not posting this sooner.
Don Jose Mexican Restaurant in Duncan, OK and Wichita Falls, TX will be open today.
Someone jokingly asked me if we were open today — knowing we are — and it gave me the opportunity to share my thoughts on what today truly means.
Today is about honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we still have. I know some people may have a defensive mindset when I say this, but today is not about the lake party, the cookout, having a day off, or anything else. Over time, we have drifted away from what this day is really about.
Today is about them, not us.
Freedom comes with a price, and they risked — and gave — their lives for us. If you see a veteran today, say “Thank you.” If you know a family who lost a loved one in service, say “Thank you.” If you see an active-duty man or woman in uniform, say “Thank you.”
Let’s refocus, remember the true meaning of this day, and show gratitude.
We allow the world and outside influences to steer us away from truth and meaning. Just like Christmas — we often make it about Santa and gifts, overspending on things we can’t afford, instead of remembering that Christmas is about Jesus and how He came to save us. We don’t always take the time anymore to sit down and teach our kids about truth and meaning.
So today, if you are an active member of any branch of the United States military or a veteran, come to Don Jose’s and let us treat you to a meal of your choice and a drink.
From the entire Don Jose’s Team and the Lopez family, we would like to say:
Thank you, and God bless!
