Whitefish Wine & Food Festival 2024 🍷
What I love the most about wine is how it brings people together. While we may all have different preferences in flavors, each glass holds its own story and to be able to experience (and taste!) those stories is a special thing. There were some great stories on display at the festival this past weekend. Here are some favorites!
🍷 Conde Valdemar Gran Reserva Rioja
100% Tempranillo
A family operated winery that has been in operation for over 130 years, they are producing lovely wines in Spain. In order to qualify as a Gran Reserva, the wine must be aged a minimum of 5 years, 18 months of which must be in an oak barrel. As a result, Spanish wines with this designation are often ready to drink by the time they hit the shelves. This particular Rioja is aged for 10 years before they release it- and despite this long in house aging process, buying a bottle won’t break the bank!
🍷 Valdemar Estates Cabernet Sauvignon
While the Valdemar family has excelled at producing Spanish wines, they recently started a vineyard and winery in Washington and have continued to produce excellent wine in the Columbia Valley. This was an exceptional and smooth Cabernet Sauvignon.
🍷 Passamante Salice Salentino
100% Negroamaro
When the current family took over this vineyard, they uncovered petroglyphs on the walls of an old rock building on the property. These are on display on every bottle’s neck sleeve and label, showcasing the long history of the land. This was my first time trying a Negroamaro varietal and it did not disappoint! It may have been my favorite of the day!
🍷 Le Vaglie Verdecchio Dei Castilli Di Jessi
100% Verdecchio
Have you ever tried a salty wine? Me neither! This wine grows in sandy ground in the eastern part of Italy in the cliffs above the Adriatic Sea. While they do not actually add salt to the wine, the coastal breezes carry in salt from the sea and it settles on to the grapes, giving the wine a slight saltiness that is so unique!
