Just out here making some of the best pizza in DC, like ya do.
Pizza-by-the-slice, whole pies, wings, tots, froyo, group orders, takeout & delivery, dine-in. The weather is beautiful today, why not walk over for a froyo?

UK picked us up 🥰

Randy Downs and Ricky Bennett woke up to shattered glass at the gay-owned pizza shop they spent a year building. Then the neighborhood answered, and it wasn't the break-in that left them emotional.

Protest Pizza sits on P Street in Dupont Circle, DC's gayborhood. Downs and Bennett are partners in business and in life, they live around the corner, and they opened the place last November as somewhere the community could actually gather.

Around 3 in the morning, a man in all black smashed the front door, vaulted the bar and took about $78 from the register.

The couple posted the security footage that morning with a short note. Nobody was hurt. Glass can be replaced. They would clean it up, fix the door and keep slinging pizza.

Then people started arriving. Every table full, order tickets nonstop, other business owners offering to lend a hand, messages coming in from as far as Oklahoma from people who only saw it on Instagram.

Bennett thanked everyone who had shown love near and far. Downs said he had been crying on and off all day just thinking about how many people wanted them to succeed.

"The break-in was upsetting, but it is not what will define Protest Pizza," Downs told the Washington Blade. "What defines us is how quickly people showed up."
