OLD SCHOOL CHOCOLATE CITY
In the early seventies, Black radio in Washington gave this city its name. The home of go-go and its Godfather, Chuck Brown. Bobby “The Mighty Burner” Bennett of WOL called it “D.C.’s classy funk and confident blackness.”
On Thursday, October 29, The Offering comes to .dc, and we are proud to announce that Eaton DC is our new partner and the home of The Offering in Washington.
This Offering is titled Old School Chocolate City. Every artist touched this city: born here, schooled here, or making their work here now. Three generations of Washington’s art under one roof.
In June, thirteen of our fourteen Selections were collected. Every work comes with its story, told by the artist who made it. And through The Reserve Program, you can reserve a work and pay over time, so wherever you are on your collecting journey, there is a way in.
Sound by DJ John Butler, who was spinning records at Howard University in the nineties. Listen for him on Eaton Radio before the night.
With my partners David Vanterpool, Akilah Ensley, Omer Rashid, and Montaz McCray.
