Our passion to build a distillery came from a desire to connect with what we drink; to use locally sourced ingredients, to recycle our spent mash to area farmers, and to pay our respects to the ancient traditions of distilling while bringing innovation and love to every bottle we fill. Alex

ander (Sandy) Wood worked for more than a dozen years as an attorney in the District before finding his true calling when he learned about the emerging craft distilling industry. Sandy has an abiding love of great whiskeys and good cocktails and a deep respect for the value of creating a company that contributes to the community. Sandy lives in DC with his wife Danielle and his three children, Ella, Zoe and Auden. ALEX LAUFER

Alex Laufer worked in biotechnology for seventeen years, moving from San Francisco to New York to the DC area. A lifelong passion for good food led him to create Eatological, a catering company focusing on local ingredients. Alex’s background in production research, lab management and cooking were the genesis of his interest in distilling. Alex lives in Silver Spring with his wife Jen and his two sons, Jonas and Abe.

We're excited to announce that public Tours & Tastings are back at One Eight Distilling! Starting on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, we have two scheduled tours every Saturday, 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM. Limited tickets are available in advance through our website: https://bit.ly/3q7FptG

As we begin the tour, a production team member will lead us through our 15,000 square foot production facilities and conclude the experience with a guided tasting of our spirits. We will break down the entire process, explore the traditional grains and flavor profiles of the Mid-Atlantic, and learn what it means to distill "Grain-to-Glass."

You can anticipate about 60 - 90 minutes for each group. Questions and discussions are welcome and encouraged during your visit!

The Tasting Room and the Still Yard (weather permitting) are open until 8:00 PM.

Each tour participant will receive a $10 discount toward a bottle purchase of District Made and Untitled spirits. The offer is only valid on the same day as the tour.

Although we usually drink our UNTITLED whiskey neat, the latest release makes an excellent Sazerac cocktail. The bold herbal flavors of absinthe and bitters complement the dark fruits, spice, and earthiness from the barrel finishes.
