, a Dominican π©π΄ who lives in Spain πͺπΈ, was invited to audition for a Bachata film π₯ role where he had to dance Bachata. In this video he is telling a story of what happened.... Although he sent videos of himself dancing Bachata as part of his Bachata film dancing role application, when he got to the audition, the was shocked that the choreography they were auditioning to was not Bachata. He was so lost and confused.... He doesn't dance Sensual. He dances Bachata and he came to dance Bachata. I clipped the full 6 minute story into a shorter.
His experience of feeling defrauded, mislead and lied to is not unique... Many Dominicans and people who dance Bachata are always shocked and confused, and turned off, when they go to events advertised as Bachata but there's no Bachata to be seen. This is why we strongly advocate for a name change of other dances that claim to also be "Bachata." Those dances look, sound, feel and smell nothing like Bachata, so how can they also be Bachata. Two or more completely different things can't be the same thing... Bachata is Dominican.... Bachata is Bachata and it is from Dominican Republic π©π΄.... Sensual is Sensual and it is from Spain πͺπΈ.
Clear communication and branding, of anything, is important to avoid confusion and disappointments. Dance whatever you want. Just don't call it Bachata (anything) because it is not Bachata. Give your dance its own unique name that does not cause confusion and threaten the extinction of the rightful dance. Please change the name.
Bachata will not disappear, for as long as we continue to speak up and promote Bachata. Viva la Bachata πͺπ½π«Άπ½β¨οΈ.
