El Chucho is a small neighborhood cantina serving modern Mexican food alongside Tall Boy Tecates and craft Margaritas. Our food is homemade and inexpensive, traditional but updated, and consists of bocadillos, tortas and tacos. The bar has a wide selection of margaritas (including one on draft and two frozen--both from scratch), casa made soft drinks, whatever delicious cocktails we feel like serv

ing at the moment as well as a broad selection of tequilas and Mexican beer. Our extensive mezcal selection is one of the largest and most interesting in the region. The menu was created by Chef Diana Davila-Boldin, whose family is from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and who studied under Susana Trilling in Oaxaca. A native of Chicago, Diana helped open numerous Mexican restaurants there and at an early age became the Executive Chef at her family's fine dining Mexican restaurant, where she received rave reviews. She later moved into New American cooking and held positions at several acclaimed Chicago restaurants before moving to DC. She was the Executive Chef at Jackie's Restaurant in Silver Spring, MD until 2013, named a "Rising Star" by the Washingtonian. She now owns the wildly popular Mi Tocaya in Chicago, where she has been nominated for a James Beard award. El Chucho - Cocina Superior was the first venture in D.C. In addition to El Chucho, the duo also own Bar Charley (Dupont Circle), Little Coco's (Petworth/Columbia Heights) and The Quarry House in Silver Spring, MD.

Big Thank you to Beatrice, Pepe and Don Octavio, whose palenques were absolutely beautiful and the juice spoke for itself. The Pelon verde from Pepe and Jabali from Don Octavio were definitely favorites.
