Had an amazing time showcasing Sierra Leone at this month’s Taste It series with !

The menu was a journey through the diversity of Sierra Leone and its many tribes, from the Fullah to the Temne people, as well as the European influences brought during colonization by the Portuguese, French, and British.

We love this series because it aligns with our mission of highlighting the connections across the African Diaspora through food. We were especially excited for the engaging conversations around Jollof—without starting any new wars. While Jollof traces its origins to the Wolof people of Senegambia (with some related tribes also found in Sierra Leone), its culinary descendants and relatives can be seen in dishes like Jambalaya and Red Rice of the Louisiana and the Carolinas, and even Paella in Spain.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and building community and culture—one dish at a time.

I have learned, to grow you have to let go and let others. I am trusting the process and working on becoming more efficient.

Catering for the community feels extra special when it's a celebration honoring a SE giant and DC Freedom Fighter.

Here are some highlights from yesterday's Commemorative Plaque Unveiling Ceremony Honoring Dr. Calvin Rolark, Sr., founder of The Washington Informer and the United Black Fund.

Hearing about Dr. Rolark and Wilhelmina Rolark's values, generosity, and commitment to empowering the DC community was a master class on living a purposeful life.

His plaque can be found at The Clara, 2323 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. S.E.

The Clara House, established by Masjid Muhammad, is dedicated to Clara Muhammad, the First Lady of the Nation of Islam.

His legacy lives on! Their legacy lives on!
