Tomorrow marks โ€™s official last day in operation - the end of an era.

Since the moment I met Chef Tim Ma, I knew right away that he was the collaborator we had been searching for to join us on our mission to open Eaton DC. I remember almost crying when Chef Tim told me the story about how his childhood in 1970s Arkansas inspired American Son. I thank Chef Tim for bringing his story, his vision, and his commitment to social and environmental progress to this very personal endeavor.

I thank everyone who made American Son what it was during its greatest times through the last few years - our teams from OG to present, the American Son family, PDS, Parts and Labor Design, the Eaton family, and our community in DC. To American Son: I hope we made you proud. -Kat Lo, Founder of Eaton

This Sunday weโ€™re celebrating all mothers, mother figures, and caregivers with a curated (pre-fixed) three-course brunch at American Son.

One day cannot begin to honor the sacrifice, love, and strength owed to our mothers but itโ€™s a start in showing our appreciation.

This three-course meal (part of a new menu thatโ€™s been very well received) is $38 per person and all mothers receive a complimentary glass of champagne, mimosas, or a spirit-free alternative.

We are taking reservations and walk-ins.

Over 60 years ago, Ruby Bridges became the first Black student to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in the 1960โ€™s. This came after the Black Panthers sued the school board in the wake of the Brown v. Board of Education decision which concluded segregation in public schools was unconstitutional.

Today we honor a civil rights figure responsible for engendering decades of progress and progression towards a more just world.

Pictured is Erik Thor-Sandbergโ€™s () mural at , itโ€™s Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass but through the eyes of Ruby Bridges. This metaphorical piece showcases Ruby fighting serpent beasts akin to those the 6 year old girl would have faced while desegregating the school system in New Orleans.
