As we wake up on St Patrick’s Day, we are at a loss for words. What should be our celebration day, our 6th celebration of the Irish, is not a day to celebrate at all. We are still in shock of all that has transpired in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, our beloved Irish Pub, our SIP, burned to the ground.
The saying “it takes a village” keeps ringing in our heads. And what a village we have! Our staff, our family, our friends, the firemen, our customers, the residents of Vernon and on and on….
To our staff: we are so blessed. We definitely hit the jackpot when it came to you all. Thank you so much for standing by us yesterday. Words could never describe what each of you mean to us. We love you all so much.
To our family: our children and grandchildren came running to be beside us as we watched this tragedy take place. You are our rock, your hugs melt all our sorrow away. We love you!
To our Village… Vernon may be small but it sure is mighty! When tragedy struck they all showed up in masses to help.
To our local businesses: Greg at Jim’s pizza: he opened his doors for the community and sat with us all day. Bryan and Ken Marks were right there helping us until we went home. Brad Middleton: he is always there for the Pub, he is the first one we call when the Pub needs something, and yesterday as always he was right beside us. Danette Web: thank you for your hugs and words. For Trevor, Krista and Scott from our Village office thank you for being there and your kind words! Trevor was there beside us all day! Jim and Jen Beach: they came as soon as they heard and opened their doors for us to come in, then stayed with us until we all went home. The Dennis family, they all came down and brought coffee, blankets and love and support.
To our friends and customers: you are the absolute best! The SIP was our little family and each of you a huge part of it!
To the firemen…we are at a complete loss for words. Thank you, thank you! 30 different departments were on the scene. You are all heroes! We thank God for you and all you did to keep us safe. They went above and beyond to help us get some items that have such a great meaning to us and our family. No words can ever express how thankful we are for every one of you!
For everyone who reached out: thank you! We are so in awe of the outpouring of love and support! For anyone we may have missed in this post, please know we’re grateful for everyone!
As our beautiful daughter-in-law, Casie said when she brought us our family crest from the firemen: “from the ashes we shall rise” This is not goodbye from the SIP. We will rise and be back!
Slainte,
Dennis and Rose Sherman
