Talk about an epic field trip! 📸 Phillip Johnson from the U.S. Forest Service took the Uintah School District Summer Camp students out to Sheep Creek Canyon in 1973 for a hands-on geology lesson.

Were you or your kids ever part of this summer camp?

For National Dinosaur Day, we're throwing it back to the summer of 1979, when an employee gave the giant Ornithomimus statue a cleaning in the Dinosaur Garden at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum in Vernal. 🦖

Many of the garden’s iconic dinosaur sculptures were created in the early 1960s by Elbert H. Porter, who taught art and sculpture at The University of Utah from 1947–1962. Although they were first displayed near Salt Lake City, the dinosaur statues were later purchased by the state and moved to Vernal.

Photo found in the Utah Department of Natural Resources records.
