Meet William Paulus!

William began his journey with LiftWerx two years ago. Originally, William was hired as a commercial driver.

Shortly thereafter, William was assigned to LiftWerx’s Team Hercules as a driver and rigger. It didn't take long for his ambition, strong work ethic, and helpful nature to stand out.

Shortly after joining the team, William expressed interest in expanding his skills and taking on additional responsibilities by assisting with work in the tower. Recognizing his motivation and potential, his supervisor arranged for William to attend GWO training at LiftWerx’s headquarters.

Since completing his training, William has become an incredibly valuable and versatile member of his team. Whether he's working on the ground, assisting with rigging operations, or helping in the tower, William consistently demonstrates that he's willing to step up and do whatever it takes to help his team succeed.

What makes William stand out isn't just his ability to take on different responsibilities. It's his attitude, determination, and constant drive to become the best version of himself. He doesn't limit himself to a job title or description. Instead, he looks for opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute wherever he's needed.

William is a prime example of what RAISING THE BAR looks like at LiftWerx. He proves that a job title doesn't define one’s potential. With the right mindset, ambition, and willingness to learn, there's no limit to what one can accomplish.

Great job, Will! Keep raising the bar and setting the example for those around you!

At LiftWerx, just about everybody knows Daren Bernier. A respected member of our training team, he's a cheerful technical trainer and a highly-experienced GWO climbing instructor. At some point, most of our employees participate in his high-angle rescue courses, sessions which require its students to work up a sweat, care for others, learn valuable safety skills, and have fun along the way.

Daren is a paddling enthusiast, and he is especially fond of solo wilderness trips. In this photo, taken at sunrise with mist lifting off the water, Daren has raised the LiftWerx Flag of Adventure on the shores of Algonquin Provincial Park, located in Ontario, Canada.

We're proud to see the Flag travel into these types of wilderness areas, far from roads and cities, in places that are off-grid, and nested in nature.

Algonquin Park was established in 1893 and is Ontario's oldest provincial park. It covers more than 7,600 km² of forest, rock, and water on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. The land is the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people, who efficiently travelled these waterways for thousands of years. With their survival skills and nimble canoes, they spread their culture and language over most of Canada's boreal forest, from the Northwest Territories to Nova Scotia, a distance spanning 6,000 kilometres (~3,750 miles).

In the 1880s, European loggers drove squared pine timber down its rivers to build a growing country and to provide wooden masts to a global shipbuilding industry.

In the early 1900s, the park's rugged shorelines and wind-bent pines inspired the famous impressionist artist Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, whose paintings helped shape how Canada sees itself.

The park is also important beyond its beauty. It protects the headwaters of several major rivers and is home to moose, black bears, loons and one of the last strongholds of the eastern wolf. It's also a living outdoor classroom for conservation and research.

Today, Algonquin Park is a wilderness mecca for paddlers. More than 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles) of canoe routes connect over 2,400 lakes, linked by portage trails that people from around the world come to travel. People typically pack light, carry their canoes from lake to lake, and earn every campsite. After one paddles away from the highway, there are no roads, no hotels, no cars, no bicycles, and very few people. People come to be one with nature, enjoy the flora and fauna, travel solely by muscle and paddle, and quietly stroke from one shoreline to the next.

At LiftWerx, we are proud to employ a high-performing team of people who have a zest for life and adventure. Thanks to Daren for raising the Flag!

Working across North America, our large corrective teams continue to raise the bar, solely using GenHook™ and RotorHook™ up-tower cranes to safely exchange the following types of major components:

💡 Gearboxes
💡 Main Bearings / Main Shafts
💡 Pitch Bearings
💡 Generators
💡 Hubs
💡 Blades

More than ever, we're observing that our customers are utilizing us for their most complex repairs.

Why, you might ask?

It's because for over a decade, we've demonstrated that up-tower cranes are not only safe and cost-effective, but they're ideal for the toughest projects.

Our customers trust that when we arrive on their wind farm, they'll not only get their valuable asset back online, but the repair will be done safely, with the highest quality, and with a minimum amount of logistical disruption to all stakeholders.

At LiftWerx, we hire plenty of student interns, most of whom are enrolled in co-operative education. These students require industry work placements as a requirement of their college or university programs.

Hiring students is great for the both the employer as well as the interns.

Interns receive plenty of hands-on experience in their field of interest. They are able to put their skills to work in real-world applications, and at LiftWerx, we provide them with projects that have high value, both for our company as well as for our customers.

And as you can see in this photo, they often need to learn some new and unexpected skills along the way.

The company benefits from bringing new talent into the company. This new talent usually arrives with fresh new ideas, new technical skills, high ambition, impressive intellect, and a healthy work ethic.

The end result? If the chemistry works for both parties, students often end up with full-time careers with the company after graduation.

We firmly believe in this philosophy for post-secondary education. After all, it's a win-win scenario for all stakeholders.

We invite you to look inside of our kitchen.

For those of you who are familiar with the art of performing large corrective repairs in wind turbines, you're probably well aware of how difficult it can be to stab a main shaft into a gearbox, or to gently slide a gearbox onto a main shaft.

The tolerances are far less than 1 millimetre, and stakes are high. If the connection is not mated perfectly, the main shaft can easily get jammed up inside the hollow shaft, causing damage. And if things go really badly, the connection can get seized up, requiring high-power hydraulics to separate the equipment again.

It's no wonder that this is a difficult thing to do. Most of the time, these operations are performed with traditional cranes on the ground. This means that equipment is hanging on a crane hook, being controlled by a large machine and an operator located hundreds of feet below. Every movement requires a command by radio down to the crane operator, who is completely blind to the operation inside the nacelle.

It requires high skill by an operator to shift the crane hook within millimetre precision, considering that the long crane boom is deflecting and the load may be swaying gently in the breeze. What makes things even more difficult is that the main shaft must be inserted into the gearbox at a slight angle, usually around 5 degrees from the horizontal. This all must be done using the hoisting, slewing, and booming functions of the crane. None of these functions align perfectly with the connection being installed.

At LiftWerx, our process makes this process far easier. We use cranes which are designed exactly for this purpose. Our RotorHook boom angle is parallel with the main shaft, and the linear trolley function allows us to slide the main shaft directly into or out of the gearbox, at the precise angle, and with no boom deflection. And the best part? The operator on the left, who operates the crane's remote controller while performing the lift, has full view of the connection, and stands within arms length.

With beautifully-designed technology like this, it's no wonder that we're able to perform hundreds of large corrective repairs each year, with world-class safety, quality, and efficiency.

Kudos to Team Ares!

This week, while working in Texas, the team faced a deteriorating weather forecast, indicating significant impacts from high winds, lightning, and rain. Due to the upcoming weather, the team developed a plan for an extended workday to ensure the gearbox swap was completed and the turbine could be left in a safe condition. Scheduled rest breaks were observed throughout the day for both up-tower and down-tower personnel.

Over the course of the day, the team built the entire up-tower GenHook™ crane system and fully exchanged this gearbox. The new gearbox was safely installed in the nacelle prior to the arrival of inclement weather.

Thanks to a great team effort, guys! We appreciate it very much.
