I stumbled into a tap house that also served food after a quick search of the restaurants around the area I was shopping one day. I knew I wanted a b**r with my meal as I had been engaged in one of my least favorite tasks, shopping.
I visited the location on Greenwich Road in East Wichita. There are additional locations at WSU and in Andover. The place had a great vibe and gave me the impression that they encourage you to hang out and are not concerned with turning tables. I looked at their website and the first thing I saw was, “ Tap Drinkery. Tap in. Hang Out.” So that’s what I did for a while.
There is a very long row of taps mounted on the wall across from where I sat at the bar. I chose a blood orange b**r to sip on while I browsed the food menu. I was torn between two options, the Oklahoma Burger and the Nashville Hot Sando. The burger eventually won me over with its double smashed patties, pressed into thinly sliced onions. It was topped with mayo, mustard, pickles and American cheese. The side options were either tots or double crisped crinkle-cut fries, and I chose the latter.
Fries should always be taste tested as hot and fresh as possible. My first bite was one of those crispy little fries. It was a satisfying crunch and chew. The crinkle cut fry is underrepresented in french fry debates. Of course I expected the burger to be good. But I wasn’t prepared for how good it was. I could barely put the burger down once I started eating. That burger almost makes me want to move closer to it. There are so many others I want to try in the future; the Hatch Chile Burger, Egg the Cow, Bacon Blue Jam, and the Wichita Wrangler. That chicken sandwich is still on my mind as well.
Social Tap Drinkery is absolutely worth the drive, but don’t enjoy the drinkery part too much if you don’t have a designated driver.
